pufanu, 21 Aug 2020I see you have some problems with reading comprehension. I ... moreI don't know what you're talking about. The Zenfone 6 has one of the best IPS, if not the best out there. Also what I said about cheap OLEDs is a hit and miss. Yours working perfectly fine doesn't mean the issue doesn't exist. Try scrolling in an app with true night mode at low brightness, maybe you'll see the other issue I talked about. Also it's a known fact that OLEDs degrade faster. All that for deep blacks, which you don't notice most of the times, and an indisplay finger print sensor, which is less accurate and more insecure (fun fact, my friend was able to unlock my phone with his thumb, had to reconfigure the fingerprints after that). Companies are selling us the gimmicks, which look cool initially but don't matter after a month or so. The extra macro and depth sensors are useless. High refresh is useless in a midranger (games can't take benefit of that high refresh rate, media can't use it). You're just gonna get smoother scrolling at the cost of faster battery drain and screen degradation. Some people are totally fine with it, but there are those who aren't. There's VRR but it's only there for Note 20 Ultra.

Zenfone 6 has a unique camera setup, which costs more than the typical punch hole or popup. A headphone jack, a microsd, and a large battery. That makes it worth the price. They can't charge a lot because it'll lose to the competition, hence they have to cut corners somewhere. But that's perfectly fine for many of us, and if you're not happy with that, you're welcome to go for a Chinese phone with Chinaware installed. You'll see there aren't many brands out there who can complete right now with Chinese. Nokia is struggling, Sony is joke, HTC is almost dead. Tell one company which isn't Chinese. Soon they'll wipe out the competition and have a monopoly, and increase their prices gradually. Oneplus is already doing it. The budget is already ruled by Realme and Redmi, Asus tried and failed there and you won't see M series phone being released. And it's really hard to compete because Chinese brands have local benefits, and hence an edge over other non-Chinese brands. Still Asus is nailing it with their ROG series, and I hope the Zenfone 7 Pro will offer tough competition to OnePlus.

Who goes pixel peeping? Who cares? There's always something ridiculous to nitpick with you people.

I've messed around with a Mi 9T Pro (I assume Xiaomi used the same or at least a similar panel as in the K20) and I haven't encountered any such problems. Maybe you just got a dud. In any case, I'd take even the cheapest OLED instead of the cruddy IPS that Asus used in the Zenfone 6. If you're going to use an LCD, you'd better use a top of the line one if you're asking 500€ for it.

Anonymous, 20 Aug 2020Don't see much price difference between Zenfone and ROG 3Size and aesthetics/design is a big difference between the two.
          ROG targeted towards gamers.

Don't see much price difference between Zenfone and ROG 3

Wait, so basically both variants will use SD865 chipset with the Pro getting the slightly upgraded SD865+. Seeing how so little the difference between the two, I'll just stay with the vanilla SD865.

So what's better than Zenfone 6, apart from camera, looks inferior to my 8GB 512GB model, which I love, by the way 😀

pufanu, 20 Aug 2020Why doea it have to be non-chinese or a top of the line ole... moreLet's say you don't pay with money when it's Xiaomi or any other Chinese brand. Also regarding 'the high end oleds' in midrange devices, they are not. I have a K20 and the display has some issues, like smudgy blacks or the screen starts flashing with green light at low brightness. And it's a common issue. Even the OnePlus 8 pro has green tint issues. Sure you won't find it on all devices, just like not each and every galaxy note exploded. Still cheap devices with oleds have issues, and a high quality LCD is better than a cheap oled anyway. There's a reason Apple used LCDs for a long time, and only now they have started with OLEDs with their X series and 11 pro series, since high quality OLEDs cost a lot. OLEDs have quality issues, and it's known very well. They are thin and fragile, which is a plus and minus (in display fingerprint sensor, but breaks easily). In my opinion OLED should only be used in Flagships, where you don't have to cut costs, hence a high quality OLED can be used.

CompactPhones5ever, 20 Aug 2020I'm not an Indian but the high refresh rate was suppos... moreIPS, rather than pentile OLED, so you actually get the resolution advertised, firstly. A less awkward unlock process, if the zenfone 6 and rogphone2 are anything to go off, in addition to a much better stock ROM. Probably much better North American LTE coverage. And, not to be forgotten, a microsd slot. Its not for everyone, but it doesnt have any anti-features. Until OLEDs are no longer pentile, I wont be able to seriously consider them a replacement for IPS.

CompactPhones5ever, 20 Aug 2020I'm not an Indian but the high refresh rate was suppos... moreThe LCD itself it's not the problem, but the price for some people.
Before p30 pro I've used the mate 20.
On max brightness there is noticeably more motion blur
And eye strain on the p30 pro compared to the mate 20s LCD.
1080p LCD is much more sharp that oled panel with the same resolution.

IpsDisplay, 20 Aug 2020How is LCD not fine , do you know the price this LCD screen... moreLCD is fine, but not at this price. The Poco F2 Pro has an OLED and it's 400€.

Would definitely switch to the pro version provided they are neck to neck with the 8 Pro from OnePlus. Cutting ties with OnePlus since they are starting to add too many elements on top of the pristine stock Android.

Even midrange oleds are miles better than an LCD. The Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro fits my description and is actually 100€ cheaper. You can't beat that.

[deleted post]so what? Are you paying for our phones.

CompactPhones5ever, 20 Aug 2020I'm not an Indian but the high refresh rate was suppos... moreIn my opinion :
                                  - less bloatware than the heavy skinned MIUI
                                  - most likely a dedicated sd card slot
                                  - most likely a stereo setup even though it's using the earpiece for the other source
                                  - with both using a moving part style, the flip cam > normal pop-up cam
                                  - an IPS panel, which cost almost less than half the price you need to pay if you break your OLED panel, based on my experience from asking the official service center when i was asked to ask the price for a replacement by a family member

I will buy the non-pro version (because the vanilla 865 is more than enough for me), if it's available in my country and also if i like the overall design. Plus i had a good experience from using Asus device so far (Zen 2 Intel from 2015 to 2017, Zenfone 3 that i still use it since early 2017). The only problem i encounter so far was when it's on Android 7.0, there's a problem with the wifi connection. The other one is of course the small battery capacity.

Anonymous, 20 Aug 2020With the pro version only costing marginally less I think i... moreLikely same 60Hz screen, too... Imo hot candidate for the biggest smartphone disappointment of 2020 so far.

With the pro version only costing marginally less I think it's safe to assume that both versions will be utilising LCD screens. Make of that what you want.

[deleted post]I'm not an Indian but the high refresh rate was supposed to be the reason to pick this phone over Poco F2 (which, by the way, is already available at around 385€).

I see a lot of people saying the 60Hz LCD is fine - tell me then, why should anyone buy this phone over Poco F2? Honest question.
