I have made a few warranty claims for hardware issues over the years. But no issues that turned me off from the brand in the 7 devices I have owned.
My only beef is that they never seem to nail the design. A new direction in every iteration that never feels completely refined or complete.

Definitely the 4a is put together pretty good (curious about the battery though). Hopefully the 4a whatever and the 5 will show the same judgement. I personally don't need or really want a flagship processor if the phone is put together well, functions well, and is competitively priced.

Hoping that this is a plan to cover the whole price spectrum and not a full retreat from flagship phones. Still holding out hope for Google developed silicon that will rival Apple's chips. Won't hold my breath on that happening anytime soon though.
I have always thought that Google can only compete so much in the smartphone hardware market before it's partners develop a 3rd OS. If Google was to ever become a major player in smartphones, partners would have less incentive to stay in the ecosystem. They can still do better with the hardware, but they will never be one of the biggest hardware sellers regardless.

I'll like the pixel 5 to keep the pixel 4a design but with better materials, and the 2 extra cameras should take the empty spots on the camera bump that look like spaces for cameras on the pixel 4a. I think it'll look great like this.

I have a hard time seeing the 5 priced comparably to other flagships if it has the same SoC as a 4a. If it doesn't add all of: multiple cameras, more storage, higher res. screen, nicer materials & more RAM it'll be a tough sell.

The one on the left is Pixel 5 (see the build material is different from 4a) where as the bigger one on the right should be Pixel 4a 5G as it uses the exact same material as the 4a.

Watching the small number of places available. It's clear that the majority of marketa simply ignore those phones and Google even don't try to sell them outside a small selected ones.
They've been always a piece of junk with lots of hardware issues and bad aftersales service. The software it's only a part of the equation.
