The macro is useful as it is able to capture close up of tiny things, which is something many peoples like to do, can even be useful when trying to read super tiny text, like on some power adapters or taking a picture of a small insect, otherwise it look like a tiny spot in the picture.
On DSLR you can change your lens to do specific things, Portrait who have an optimal focus distance and a high enough focal length, macro who specialize at having a really close focus point, wide/ultrawide who allow to capture larger area without requiring to be too far, telephoto who give big optical zoom (or fixed magnification) are the most popular along with the general purpose one.
On Smartphone you can't just change lenses, so you need multiple camera to get all those things done, maybe it is useless for YOU, but it is far from the case of everyone
What make macro useless though is when they are too low resolution, only recently they switched from 2Mp to 5Mp, and we can hope to see a 12Mp in the future.
Because if there is one thing a main objective or a crappy 2Mp macro can't do, this is taking this type of amazing shots :

But IMHO you described something more like Tesla than OnePlus (unlocked range, camera etc.). ;)

slrparser, 25 Aug 2020Even I purchased oneplus 7t recently. But due to tink issue... moreIn terms of display? Well on paper the 7T has a better display (90hz vs 60hz, OLED vs LCD, 1080p vs 828p) but it has outstanding colour reproduction, better brightness levels and no tint issues.

Breaking news: Oneplus release a new software updates for Nord to improve the quality from bent test failure thats sound weird but true it is now pass the bent test. Another updates also come for camera. This new software updates include replacing brand new camera OTA and improve photo quality. But TBH this update news is pretty weak - that macro lens is laughable + nothing will save slow lens on selfie cams.
I often wonder how is OnePlus able to use incredibly good sensors and have the results only ... meh, it's ok I guess. Lens issue? Software issue?
