I don't see how this is better than DS, IMO it should an entire large sliding display which slides out from the side transforming your phone into a tablet or act like DS accessory

LG at this point, is just making random uncreative gimmicks as their mobile division collapses. LG won't be in the Top 10 Smartphone Market Share half a decade from now. Mark my words.

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2020Design is what limits innovations.
Last decade, they ha... moreWrong, not only design isn't a concern in MANY cases where the function had more importance over the form, such as periscope telephoto who doesn't contribute at all to the appearance, but some functions actually are detrimental to the appearance but still wished, such as the complexe cooling and big battery of the Black Shark 3 (3, 3S and 3 Pro) which is over 10mm thick.
I am actually advocating thicker phones, peoples doesn't even know why they want thinner phone, there are not a single benefit to a phone under 10mm thin, only diminishing return and actually an awkward handling for many peoples as it is too thin, that's exactly what happened to the 5mm Oppo R5, by reaching this extreme it was too thin, many peoples complained that it was unpleasant to hold.
Nowaday we could EASILY make phones that thin, but ask yourself why we aren't.
Now, knowing that, question that ultra thin design obsession and ask yourself, without biased view, if it is a really logical desire pushed by a real usefulness.
If anything, there are many peoples complaining that the size (height and width, not thickness) of smartphones is too much and want smaller one, yet the trend continue toward bigger and bigger phones.
Public opinion is what drive features and innovation, except that public opinion is often manipulated at one's advantage, if you tell peoples "buy a display with dead pixels on it", they buy it, if you sell a phone that remove one of the most useful port ever that have compatibility with way more devices than one can imagine, if it is well enough marketed peoples still buy it anyway.
So when you have the edge at creating thinner designs and you know competition will struggle, you make peoples want thin phones, even if no only there isn't a single reason as to why, but actually despite it being a really negative thing.
Obviously there are real world limits as to what peoples are gonna accept, the 3cm thick Energizer phone was way too thick for general audience, but so was the R5 who was too thin, it is a niche product that serve as a technology demonstrator, but make a 15mm and 282g armored phone, and peoples will still buy it :
https://www.gsmarena.com/ulefone_armor_8-10383.php
Because fonction here beat form while being within acceptable limits, and those looking for such device are have interests in the function and doesn't regard the form as long as it isn't too handicapping, and a 15mm phone clearly isn't a problem at all.
Give me a ~6,5" ~7" smartphone, 15mm thick with all the features I want, even if it is 500g, I am gonna buy it.
The only peoples who complain about phones being "too big" are the one who only experienced thin smartphones and who only look at the size in internet spec sheets, those who actually try and get their hands on the device aren't complaining.
I'd take a 10mm thick phone without camera hump over a 8mm phone with a 2mm hump anyday, that "without counting the camera" is proof that you forgot that phones used to not have the hump because it is now everywhere as a result of this artificial need to make the phone unnaturally thin, and there is no point making a thick phone if you keep the hump.
Would you play console games with a 18mm controller or pc games with a 18mm mouse ?
I seriously, doubt that, smartphones are the ONLY thing with an obsession over ultra thin design, and as MANY obsessions in that market, it have been made, it is clearly not something peoples someday thought about and decided to like or that emerged from a real need.
If anything, reducing the diagonal size to fit into more pockets/small bag's pockets is an useful thing that peoples could want, the added thickness of a phone only have positive point and is barely negative even with small pockets, but they keep making taller and wider phones because they push making it thin for no reasons, so they need to spread the components onto a taller and wider body...
Innovation and diversity are two important and wishable things that are no where to be found in this stupidly messed up market that is smartphones.
