Underdisplay camer is actually one of BEST invention in mobile technology because it remove necessity of any hole in front of device so you can get whole space for screen and nothing more, you can even place other sensors under it and you dont need to stick to upper part of device so its give you more possibilities to rearange space inside to make eg, more space for other components.

J. , 27 Aug 2020There is also dust entering and scratching the pop up camer... moreThe ONLY issue, after 2 years that dust have caused is to jam the pop up temporarily, the calibration function dislodge the dust and it work as good as new afterward, because unlike electronic/static components, a well maintained mechanical system can last for CENTURIES, some actually are still working after centuries, no LCD/Oled display, no battery and no chips as found on smartphones could ever dream about it.
Yes, it CAN do it, but even in dusty environment, it never happened, proving that you just vomit theoretical possibilities without ANY real world evidence, evidences which are : It never happened, and we are close to the maximum time the vast majority of peoples keep their phone (3 years).
And EVEN if it happened, it isn't a big deal, it is only a camera.
Those aren't fantaisies, considering the pop up as fragile and with all the imaginary defects you talk about is actually you living in fantasy, because reality doesn't match AT ALL what you describe.

Note the use of the word "excessive", the pop up mechanism sit on a TIGHT enclosure, which doesn't allow much dust to get in, and EVEN when it get it, it typically also get back out the same way.
At this point you are just desperate trying to find excuses to blame the pop up for, if I let you continue, you'll soon say it is the cause of world hunger and climate change.
And since you are starting to insult, I guess you are really out of wrong "arguments" to throw.
Fact is, if the pop up were really that bad, phones like the Poco F2 Pro wouldn't exist, nor it would have been sold in huge quantities, nor the vast majority (almost everyone) with a phone having a pop up would be totally satisfied.
And more importantly, rather than imaginary theoretical possibilities, you would throw tons of articles, forum posts and other report of failure.
But except a really small quantities consistent with potential build defects, there are none to be found.
Fact :
You are wrong, REALITY prove it.
What you have here is an opinion, what I exposed just here was facts, real life events or lack of events that prove by A+B something.
And this something is : The pop up are doing great, they doesn't suffer any issue and work really well, that you like it or not.
Now, I'll let you go back to your favorite dead pixels method for front camera, bye bye.

I am curious about the improvements to the camera. I believe its stated for 4k at 120fps and even a very short burst if 4k at 240fps. Hopefully that means that the regular 4k has also been substantially improved. Apple also needs to go a little easy on the colour saturation in photos. I suspect they will have a new version of the 48/64MP sensor too.

2nd point: Easily fooled by a twin. Valid point, and a real concern for the 0.3%-0.4% of the population who are identical twins.

Good luck with that face id in this pandemic full of masks .

And this isn't what I recommend, as I said, having a 600ppi and a 175Hz would be more than enough.
This is just that the prototype made in 2018 was able to reach 400Hz at 2500ppi, and they know they can push it at 2000Hz, it is just to tell that a 600ppi at somewhere from 144 to 200Hz is well within the technology capabilities and would result in a display as high resolution and fast as the best Oled currently available.

Maybe smartwatches, though.
The 400hz refresh rate might seem cool, but refresh rate will eventually hit a point of diminishing returns. It's already a bit hard to tell 120hz to 144hz, much less 144hz to 400hz.

Amazing job on that 3d rendering(I could never do... moreThanks, and well it isn't that advanced, the design isn't finished, many details are to be done, like rounded edges (as they are currently sharp), but it is because SketchUp (which exist in a free version BTW if you want to try it) isn't adapted for such modeling, but it was the one I had my hand on and knew how to use the best at that time.
Yes, it would greatly improve things, the reason is because innovation is something really lacking nowadays, peoples just take existing things, maybe improve a bit on it, but mainly they keep upgrading again and again the same tech, even when a clearly better alternative exist.
This fictional concept phone for example have a graphene based display, graphene display work by physically moving pixels in and out, and because of how it work, not only it have an amazingly high resolution and refresh rate potential, but they are reflective type display.
Basically, reflective type based on digital ink/e-ink, like Kindle readers, they don't need backlighting to be viewable, unlike transmissive display who need a backlighting in order to see the image, and the big avantage is that, it can keep an image indefinitely without requiring any power (as it is physically displaying it as if it was printed).
But my concept actually have an hybrid transmissive/reflective one that can address individual pixels with white light, allowing for HDR and really good low light visibility while keeping extremely low power consumption level.

Those display have literally everything superior to any other types.
Past a time, carbon nanotube display were thought to be the future, but Oled surpassed what they could have been, except that depending on the implementation it can be totally immune to burn in, (same with e-ink ones), then Oled are now endangered by the upcoming miniled and microled tech, but reflective graphene display are even better.
And considering they made a crazy 400Hz and 2500ppi (pixels per inch) which is way above the 550ppi that the top densest mass sold smartphone top at, making a 175Hz and 600ppi display is totally reasonable for mass production.
Yet, I am not aware of a single smartphone brand doing research on those displays...
That's one of the many exemple of clearly superior tech that the industry doesn't do any effort toward.

That is going to be a huge flop pretty much like the radar tech implemented by Pixel. Lidar is just ridiculous. It is almost abandoned on autonomous vehicles because of the price and power consumption. Since Apple is the absolute worst in battery life Lidar is going to be a disaster. That money laundry company is always holding back innovation and it also does so for the other companies because it offers no real competition, only predatory practices.
