And there is a basic and poorly face recognition on the oneplus to make it faster, check about that. Even for a better 3D face unlock with a pop up the motor needs more power and space which means more cost, less space for other components and more degradation for every single time to unlock.

Hello Life, 26 Aug 2020Ever tried oneplus face unlock? Fastest in the business. Be... moreI don't think there's anything correct about your comment except for maybe that the Oneplus has the faster face unlock. But that is indeed because it's less reliable and can be fooled by a picture. The iPhone uses a 3D dot projector and IR sensors, which you know, prevent a 2D object like a picture to unlock the device.
And Google does indeed have the Soli radar in the Pixel 4, but that doesn't slow down face unlock, it actually makes it faster, lol.

J. I, 26 Aug 2020Im talking about speed and cost. F4ng3yWell, again, those are myths, there are many video of face unlock comparison of phone like the OnePlus 7(t) Pro against flagship of the same period, including one with the Galaxy S10 Pro and Huawai P30 Pro, it actually beat them :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHtRYt-5bIk
https://youtu.be/_gU9fFcX1C0?t=159
And some of the cheapest devices have a pop up, definitely proving it isn't a costly thing.
It is just a small motor, a screw and a plastic enclosure for the camera with a metal nut that get in the screw, why would it be expensive ?

iPhone never disappoints.
Anyway, the image shows the screenshot of a emulator.. rather then the actual phone. So Apple can still hide it, and have no 120hz. Unless it show a physical phone, with that settings.. better take it with a grain of salt.

I used to hate them, I used ot make fun of them and in the end, because of certain anti-Google circumstances I ended up buying iPhone XR. Because not using Google crap was more important than a notch. In the end it wasn't that big of a deal and IU don't take notch as intrusion into the display area but as extension for signal and battery indicators. FaceID was actually really cool feature and I'd rather have notch with FaceID than full notchless display without FaceID. That's even despite all the masks nonsense currently.

PotatoHead, 26 Aug 2020Still, no phone with a pop-up has water resistance cause of... moreExcept that the OnePlus 7(t) Pro proved that a phone with a pop up can actually have water resistance.
And that's where you simply saw a pop up on my design and closed the tab without even looking at how it was.
My pop up design (the whole phone is build around this concept) use electromagnetic actuators rather than a motor, not only it doesn't take any more space than a regular set of camera since it have no motor sticking out (a coil for such a small thing doesn't need to be big, and it can be flat), but also, because of how it work, it is on a totally separated compartment from the rest of the phone's body, rendering it totally waterproof, but also ultra fast, have no moving parts except for the pop up itself, have virtually no wear and can't be broken by pushing it since it is only held up or down through magnetic power and move through electromagnetic attraction on magnets.
And well, if they stopped making stupid thin phones, it wouldn't be an issue, under 10mm there is no point of making thinner phones, it have only negative points like less internal space and is even awkward for many peoples to handle.
The K30 Pro/Poco F2 Pro proved that a pop up can be made while giving all features (and more) other phones have while ALSO adding a big ass cooling system that was literie (maybe still is) the biggest ever put on a smartphone.
And this is because, at first the pop up were really popular, it was THE solution, many peoples were fan of them, but then, news articles started talking about POTENTIAL downsides, theoretical issues that could happen, they started as soon as pop up were announced, talking about fragility, or mentioning "moving parts" as if it was a bad things or if "the industry is trying to remove them" which is TOTALLY FALSE, between more advanced vibration motor, periscope telephoto with its big set of moving lenses, and now gimbal camera, the industry is totally not, it is just one of the myths.
So, once they started worrying, other wrote similar things (you know how news articles are basically copy/paste of the first who wrote it and how they use the same terms and arguments), which in turn caused some peoples to really catch with those key words, and since then, for over 2 years, they constantly repeat them online, which scared many potential buyers.
That's why pop up aren't more popular, because of totally false and unjustified fear, truth is, almost every users of a phone with a pop up is quite satisfied, there are less phones with pop up killed by water than IP68 certified one, and there are more peoples spreading myths about pop up than there have been definitively broken (meaning that the calibration function can't help recover from) pop up.
Also, pop up are the only solution, along with a second display on the back, that provide enhanced privacy, and privacy is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than you think.
For that alone, they should be encouraged, even though just making phones without front camera altogether would be better.
As you pointed out, pop up are rare, that's exactly why I defend them, mainly when idiots (like the other guy) are bashing them for no reasons.

While the mechanisms seem to be quite durable and robust, they take too much space inside the phone and for the same reason won't ever be a thing except as an experimental phone or something.

I used both , and face Id is superior to the in screen fingerprint reader. And that's me comparing first gen face Id to the galaxy s20 reader, which compared to the first S10 reader is 10000x better. Yet it's bad compared to the S9s reader or faceid on iPhone x

And of course your opinion is golden I guess.
That's funny how your opinion of my own opinion is actually based on something you are totally wrong about.
