We eventually had to start phasing these out and we replaced them with galaxy j5 2017, the difference between incident tickets versus those the lumias was massive, just remember I'm not comparing just 1 handset here, we had 100s of fault tickets raised even more probably as these were ordered before I even came into the IT dept

This is great, but do we need another walled garden, besides Apple and Google? I prefer open projects, and especially these with privacy in mind. I have already switched to /e/ from e foundation, which is ungoogled android. It doesn't send data to Google or Apple, so my data stays private. I'd be delighted if Huawei used /e/ instead of creating another Google.

I look forward to that. Maybe a chance to start from scratch. These superblownup OSes, apps, etc, which force the industry to develop devices with MegaCore CPUs, Terrabytes of memory, powerstations as batteries, displays with lightspeed - it has just become crazy. A good OS, well written and optimized with good app-support could do some magic - also on lower specced hardware. We will see....

At this point almost all OS created this far were superior to Android in Performance

Meego ran like Breeze even with 1 GB RAM

Bada OS ran smooth even with 512 MB RAM

Blackberry even with 2 GB RAM could handle complex multitasking with stutters

                Sailfish was smooth too

Microsoft Windows Mobile could do so much 1 GB what Android could not even accomplish with 4 GB

Android Hardware is excellent, it's Android OS is completely limiting them

Android OS is a massive bottleneck to performance gains in SoCs.

Hoping Fuchsia could finally release ASAP and offer stutter free 120fps performance

abigfanoftechs, 10 Sep 2020Maybe the low RAM is for low end 1 cent micro-controllers?Oh thanks for the clarification, I completely forgot about that.

I don't see there was any other ways, for Huawei, to survive from the US bully.
So they are forced to become independent from US techs.

Remember early day of Android was crap compared to iOS.

They just need to build the core of the OS and invite other developers to do the rest. They have have already indicated that they can support over 13000 APIs and so most of applications will be ported with less difficult.
Things are only impossible to those who think they are but to other people they are not impossibilities but opportunities.
As for multitudes of processors currently available, all they need to focus on are the main ones they intend to us on their devices which are mainly RISC based and they will be good to go.
That's not to say will be an easy task but people can do tbe impossible when pushed against the wall and that's the position they are in of to either succeed with it or the company to collapse.
But only time will tell whether they will succeed or not.

Anonymous, 10 Sep 2020Just because someone fails something does not mean everyone... moreYes Linux was mainly driven by a single guy during its inception, but the time he had the idea to start working on it was when computers were still mostly basic in their capabilities and he had a blueprint to use (Unix), he had a relatively easy time (though I don't know how he did it without modern software development tools haha) creating the environment as the functions demanded by a new OS where also relatively simple, he didn't have to deal with a bazillion chips, touchscreens, folding screens, widescreens, aspect ratios, cellular communication, WiFi and sensors of all types and kinds.

It is truly naive to assume this can be done with the time frame Huawei has been given, even with the entirety of the Chinese market as "incubators". While I don't rule out the possibility that they could pull it off but they really lack the time, money and expertise to come close to achieving it right now and at this stage of their growth.

Do you know that Linux was created by a single person called Linus Torvalds, Unix itself was also created by just two guys namely Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson at Bell labs. What can stop other people from doing the same?

There many reason why other companies may have not tried to create OSes in the recent past but now for Huawei it's all about survival and they have no choice but innovate and currently weather one likes it or not, they have got some of the best talent and enough money to pull this off.

Also, they have a home market which can act as incubation platform before they can find their feet.
