It doesn't really use the camera hardware, it rather uses movement sensors in the smartphone. Its simply not possible to use camera lens or camera sensor to measure heart beats. They might use OIS but I doubt it.

This is why Samsung ditched their dedicated heart rate sensor on their Galaxy phones.

That's cute, ultrasonic FPS such as the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max can literally see veins, and have a way better accuracy, they are also way better as FPS in every aspects than optical and capacitive, just put that damn thing over the stupid optical one on your Smartphones, and you'll have your heart rate monitor.

There are apps that could do this right now for any smartphone. I just don't know how it works and if it's accurate or not.
