So, the US should just shut them down, as India did. Come to think of it, the free-world version of TikTok is now allowed in China either.
The West should not continue to do business with China if China cannot behave as a good partner. Large corporations are fine doing business with dictatorships, as dictators stay in power a lot longer than elected officials and can be greased with less risk. But

I trust Chinese high tech firms over American high tech firms and the reason is 2-fold.
1. It's proven CIA/NSA installed backdoor on Cisco networking equipment. NSA intercepts internet data routed through US servers. US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court grants NSA access to encrypted communication software (e.g., all Skype communication have been accessible to NSA since February 2011).
2. China and Chinese companies have to constantly push back against allegations that they are spying so reputation is #1. One Chinese high tech caught spying would ruin all Chinese high tech's reputation. The US on the other hand use its spying freely because "who else are you going to turn to?"
