Full display without rounded corners is the way to go.
Also to many components need to be pushed inwards because of the curved edges.
I hope more brands implement that kind of design.

I meant no offense or anything. Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if a ton of companies go to a square-edged design for packaging efficiency. Especially with 5G modems and other industry-first components that are gonna take up lots of space. They'll fit better pressed up against flat edges. Might make phones kinda uncomfortable to handle/hold tho :D

IDK why people think the notch is going away. Ugly or not, it's the new face of iPhone. It was the same with the button design. For the longest time, Apple kept the round Home/TouchID button that necessitated large borders around the phone for symmetry. At the end of its life, it wasn't the most modern-looking design, but it remains extremely functional, even today. And maybe even more importantly, it made the iPhone instantly recognizable as an iPhone. Even when they could have made the button smaller, or a flatter shape, they didn't, and for good reason. The new notch is no different. It may not be the prettiest solution, but it is perfectly functional, and consistent among all iPhones. In true Apple fashion, they will only get rid of the notch when they become capable of miniaturizing everything enough to put all of the hardware within a thin border (probably unlikely), or when they become capable of hiding everything underneath the screen (probably more likely). They'll never do any hole-punch style layouts. Their design philosophy (look up Bauhaus and Dieter Rams) would consider that to be a gimmick, which it is.

Everyone else has rounded edges, so Apple wants to stand out again. That said, there is a functional advantage to the design (something about making a rigid frame with the two pieces of glass sandwiching it, and the square edges making component placement more efficient). Like you said, Sony uses a square-edged design too, and Apple is not copying them (Apple did it first). But I don't even think Sony is copying Apple lol. The probably chose it for their own reasons.

If Android vendors wanted to copy it, they would have done so a long time ago. And I don't think they will because it is not a modern but a dated design.

i wish they kept the camera surrouding black so those hideous camers blends a little bit and maybe made everything in proportion like the cameras all aligned almost a 4 camera module but the 4th one is the two extra camera together since they are small so it looks cleaner
