I wonder what they smoked when they proposed 700 Euro. mi 10 has Amoled instead of that cheap LCD and costs just 500 Euro, nobody is buying it still. :)) Should be max 400 Euro.

Great device but it's biggest downside is the horrendous IPS screen.

YUKI93, 18 Sep 2020Funny you mentioned waterproof bag, I actually did have one... moreWell, LG are the only one with MIL-STD-810G standard, so this isn't surprising they are more resistant.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that IP rating cause phones to be less water resistant or to die on water, but it doesn't add anything neither, if anything, I would always choose a phone without IP rating but water damage warrante coverage over the opposite.

But still, IP rating isn't waterproofs, nor tested repeatedly or with a phone that already have some use time nor with salt water, so despite the phone already requiring to be a certain build quality standard giving it water resistance in order to pass IP rating, it isn't for repeated use in water, so really, if you can get a bag that doesn't affect much picture quality, use it for your own sake, as if the phone do die for any water related reason, there is no guarantee they'll accept to replace it (sometime they are nice and still do it though, but that's an expensive bet), better be safe than sorry.

I mean, you could well keep doing it for a decade and still have no issues, but you could also get your phone damaged literally the next time you do it because a combinaison of heat, air humidity, salt and potential body flex caused a crack large enough on the body's glue to let a water drop in next to a critical component.

Alternatively there are those kind of armored cases :
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RYSBBXK (an exemple, not necessarily this one)
Though I don't know how effective they are at stopping water, nor if often opening them to allow water operation keep them effective on the long term.

AnonD-909757, 18 Sep 2020First, well, stop doing that, consider buying a waterproof ... moreFunny you mentioned waterproof bag, I actually did have one before. But since how effective my phone performs in underwater, I ended up ignoring it.

YUKI93, 18 Sep 2020Useless IP rating? I wouldn't say that. I always bring... moreFirst, well, stop doing that, consider buying a waterproof bag for smartphones, such as this :
                    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBK7OSY
Not necessarily this one in particular, this is just an example, remember that IP rating test is performed once and with clean water, sea water damage joints and it can be a matter of few more swims before your phone have a leak, water itself isn't conductive, but non distilled water is, and sea water significantly more, quote :
*Absolutely pure water has a conductivity value around 0.055µS/cm, tap water typically has a value around 50-100µS/cm and sea water normally has a value around 53mS/cm.*
                    Don't risk your device.

And IP rating have nothing to do with that, as I said, making the phone the same way and just not IP rate it wouldn't change anything, a non IP rated phone can be made more ingress protected than an IP rated one.
IP rating is just a certification, which isn't real world representative, a brand could make a perfectly legit waterproof (not just water-resistant) smartphone without IP rating.

AnonD-909757, 18 Sep 2020Most smartphone are well enough built (including those with... moreUseless IP rating? I wouldn't say that. I always bring my LG V50 to the sea, which has an IP68 rating, and I have zero problems with it even when I swim. No component failure to report at all.

I wonder how different the Mi 10T Pro would be compared to the Mi 10 Pro. One thing I do notice from the unofficial preliminary specs is that this doesn't have a dual telephoto camera like in the latter.

Anonymous, 18 Sep 2020IP is also against dust. Duat can enter the phone through... moreMost smartphone are well enough built (including those with pop up) to easily survive dust for decades, there are computer who have more dust than components by volume and work fine, though a good cleanup would indeed allow better cooling, I haven't read anyone talking about any smartphone ever killed by dust, including those with pop up despite having something that could theoretically make lot of dust get in.

Most phones aren't letting dust in at all, and again, IP rating doesn't change anything except saying "Hey, this very low percentages of brand new and pristine phones passed this lab conditions test once", but doesn't affect the phone properties at all.

You can make a phone with better water (or actually waterproof) and dust resistance than any IP Rated phones if you wanted.
Take a list of every phones that are IP rated and go back it time to make sure they don't rate them but still make them the same way, nothing would have changed, except actually there would be less phones dead or damaged by water as less peoples would have though they are dealing with submarines, and would have adopted more sensitive attitudes, but without the certification the phones will be the same.

OnePlus with their OnePlus 6 and 7 was really notorious for that, their phone had excellent water resistance but they saved cost by not rating them, sadly with the OnePlus 8, they listened to every bad requested and ignored every good ones, trading jack and pop up for useless IP rating and other nonsense.
