This is purely a ploy to cross sell additional products and services, usb type c to 3.5mm jack adapters, manufacturer owned cloud based service. I'm sure you are aware that google and apple own two of the biggest and most lucrative cloud storage engines in the world? Guess which phones never have any sd card slot? Pixels and iphones. Literally never. Also, I'm sure you have heard of google buds, samsung buds and the apple airpods? It's nothing to do with modernization and it's not providing a better user experience. It's not even what the majority of consumers want. It's simply allowing them to diversify their products and services and tie consumers into their product family as such. It's all a big fat con but hey it's 2020 so that's okay. The day when certain manufacturers phones will only work with manufacturer specific charging cables and wireless headphones is fast approaching I reckon.

This is not 2012....Indeed, this is 2020 where higher quality than ever wired headphones using the 3.5mm Jack are available, such as the Sennheiser HD 660 S or the EPOS & Sennheiser GSP 600 or the Audio-Technica ATH-A2000Z for example, this is also the year where many 3.5mm Jack dongles, like Paypal credit card reader for example do exist.
And this is also the year where phones have increasingly high quality camera and internal memory haven't changed since over 3 years now as many phones aren't allowing options for more than 256Gb of internal storage.
And this is also the year that smartphones have 5G but still kept 3G compatibility, phones have Wi-Fi 6 but still keep compatibility with Wi-Fi A, and where smartphones have Bluetooth 5.2 but are still backward compatible with Bluetooth 1.0.
This is also the 143th year the Jack exist and the 60th year the 3.5mm variant exist and still work extremely well and is still one of the most widely used connector among professional sound engineers and musicians and the almost only available connector on Electric Guitars and professional headphones.
And with only 4 size variant and only one used for Smartphones, it is one of the least messy connector available.
So yeah, this is 2020 where the Jack fit perfectly and shouldn't be removed under any circumstances and where SD card slot allow many users who love photography or need extra storage to have available options.

Don't care if Cloud exists, you cannot access files while on flight or garbage LTE/wi-fi connection. Same goes with the fact that wired audio will always sound superior with one less device to charge than wireless.

with that pathet... moreAlthough I agree that 5Mp Macro is stupid low resolution, it is a huge improvement over the 2Mp useless one.

The difference is huge, so, the 5Mp Macro, although still stupid low resolution isn't useless, the 2Mp Macro is.
The Depth camera will always be useless as long as it doesn't reach at least 12Mp though.

*One of the amazing IMX689, IMX700, ISOCELL GN1 or other Omdirectional PDAF or DP PDAF or equivalent as a main sensor.
*An ultrawide with a ~16Mp - ~19Mp camera to match the pixel density (pixels per degrees) of the main sensor (after binning).
*A periscope telephoto with at least 3x optical zoom, 5x being quite nice, a good 16Mp or more to allow pushing a little numerical zoom on top of that without loosing too much quality, and a Portrait optimized setting.
*A 8Mp or 12Mp Macro camera with a 2x optical zoom, a deep depth of field and the minimum focus point not changing with zoom.
*A 12Mp (or more, to match the binned main camera resolution and angle) Flash LiDAR ToF type Depth Sensor.
THIS would be a useful and powerful camera setup, far from the stupid 2Mp useless resolution.

I love the flat screen though. Hopefully OnePlus 9 will feature less gimmicky and more necessary cameras.
