The reason they had to switch to WP8 was because WP7 was based upon a really outdated OS called Windows CE. There was no future-proofing to WP7, and if Microsoft wanted WP to be a viable option when choosing a smartphone, they had to upgrade it's OS. It was either screw the people who just bought WP7 phones, or get left in the dust by Google and Apple.

It will NOT have Windows 8, nor will it be able to get Windows 8. You will have to wait for the new WP8 models to come out if you are looking for a WP8os phone.

Does that mean that if I buy Lumia 800 after october, I'll get W8 instead of W7?
Or will they launch a new model for the W8 version?
(Why I am so concerned is, I m planning to buy a Lumia device and I personally like the Lumia 800 better than the rest [even the 900].. So I don't want any changes to be done to the Lumia 800 for the W8 OS...)

The limitation is based on hardware. It's been 5 years since the first iPhone. You'd think there would be a point where older devices can not be supported?

MOST iPhone's will be able to get it but not all. Devices as far back as the 3GS should be able to support it.

Unlike Android where you might or might not be able to get upgraded to even a newer (not newest) OS. And it doesn't even matter if your hardware can support it or not, it's almost random.

Unlike Windows Phone where this years phones won't even be able to be upgraded to this years New OS.

That's why it doesn't get as much mention. Anything else?

No o... moreYou say what's the big deal but let's not forget the older iPhone models have always been upgraded the the next iOS for at least over a 1 to 2 year period. The Limia device hasn't been out for 6 months, yet it won't receive windows 8. That's the big deal. When you buy an Apple device you can rest assure that you will have a future proof device for at least 2 years.

Lumia = Winphone, Tiles, Microsoft and no future
Galaxy = No Winphone, no Tiles, No Microsoft and with a bright future.
