Google launches the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G with Snapdragon 765G, 5G and ultrawide cameras

That's right, the 8-serires Snapdragon on the premium model. As is the tele camera, replaced by an ultra wide shooter instead.

"Technically, aluminum is used for the Pixel 5, but apparently, there is another layer of a material that sits directly on top. Google calls this material "bio-resin", which is basically a super-thin plastic material. The aluminum underneath helps give the Pixel 5 a sturdy and premium structure. Additionally, this design allowed the tech giant to cut a hole in the smartphone’s aluminum chassis and install there the wireless charging coil. Google additionally says that you won’t be able to feel the coil since the plastic material sitting on top of it is very sturdy, despite being super thin."

    I am not really sure what Google is trying to achieve through this pricing, both Pixel 3 and 4 launched at $799 with flagship chipsets but this @ $699 with SD 765G, not really sure and why omitting India since Pixel 4? Sell it without 5G, sell it with the same chip so what India does not have 5G infrastructure, mobile will run 4G right? Every other brands are selling 5G mobiles in India, what's stopping them?

      Why don't google and sony make an in-screen fingerprint scanner?
      The disadvantage of a fingerprint scanner on the back is that when the phone is lie down, it must first be lifted. If the scanner is on the screen, do not do this.

        I think for the same price the upcoming 5.4" iPhone 12 and 6.1" 12 Max are a better deal in every way (including the cameras).

          Xypod, 01 Oct 2020"average boring looks" Yeah right cause the Xperi... moreyou are right, the perception of the looks is a matter of personal preferences, but this phone looks exactly like at least another dozen phones, no thrills, no identity. xperias, for good or for bad, with its top / bottom bezels and strange height / width ratio look different, samsung, though similar to other "curved" display devices has a certain degree of elegance... that's why this engineering / design area is called "look and feel" :) pixel looks and feels like average. as i said, not bad, not good, no thrills, no identity, just common, just average...

              IMO, this minimalist design of Pixels is really great and sober.

                This would be my perfect phone. It's small, light, with an amazing camera, reasonably powerful (I don't play games on a mobile phone). It would be my perfect phone if Xiaomi made it and it would cost < 300€, but Google is like Apple pricing their phones, and that makes it a no go for me. Sadly....

                    As a Oneplus 7 user I'd gladly take the pixel 5 over Oneplus 8 or 4a5G over Nord, even though the pixel 5 is less "powerful". For day to day uses I don't think I'll notice any major lag.
                    The thing thats a big advantage for the pixel phones are updates, especially security updates. Oneplus 7 and 7 pro are still at july security patch. The camera quality is going to be one of the best. The display is good enough. The difference between 90 and 120 hz isn't that noticeable. The battery life is also going to be better than the 865 phones. The aluminum back means that i dont have to worry about it breaking.

                    Also Google knows that the pixel 5 won't sell as much as their lower tier phones. The flagships never sells as much as midrange phones. So they would have tried to make up for the lack of sale in a slightly higher price.

                          a very much average phone + a little better than average camera setup + average boring looks + not average price. for those who can afford 100-150 extra xperia 5II and s20fe are, probably better options.

                          i wonder: what's the big deal with the "recycled" aluminium? metals, alu included, are the easiest and common materials to recycle. the main costs, ecologically wise, are not with the row material but with (re)smelting, casting, extruding, thermal treatments, machining, etc, that are pretty much the same with recycled or not-recycled aluminium, so not biggy here like, for instance, plastics. but, i guess, the buzzword works for the masses...

                            No big surprise, but the 5 is completely overpriced for midrange specs, 5G and 8 GB of RAM are not enough to have it listed at over 600€. It makes the 4a 5G that much more appealing, and the normal 4a a no-brainer choice for those who don't care about 5G just yet.

                              Really glad they got rid of the glass back. But totally no worth $700 for a inferior chipset. There are enough compromises on Pixel phones, compared to other flagships, but the one thing you could always count on (even back in the Nexus days) was a top of the line chipset. This is barely an upgrade over a three year old Pixel 2 (if you look at benchmarks).

                                  I do feel quite bummed to see Google no longer use flagship-tier chipset for the Pixel 5. But then again, 765G is actually more than good enough for daily use so that doesn't really bother me. What really bothers me the most is the secondary ultrawide camera. Everyone says that ultrawide is more important than telephoto. Well not me - I deeply value telephoto more than ultrawide when it comes to the dual-camera setup. The last thing I want when it comes to shooting an object that I cannot go near to is a super-wide view.

                                  I'll wait for future Pixel with a triple wide/telephoto/ultrawide camera setup.

The entire presentation was very cringey to watch, which inherently puts people off. Oh, and for the FE presentation, they focused WAY too much on "style". Like, we appreciate the effort put into these small details, but don't spend half an hour droning on and on about "style". You know full well that 80% of people throw on a case anyways and forget about the colour, and you know full well that people choose to style their phones by using nice, artistic cases anyways. It's just so much easier for me to go online and get a decent $15 Star Wars case and 1 year later swop it out for something else I've gained an interest in. Sure, some iPhone users got their favourite colour, because that's always a nice bonus, but colours and "style" is NOT worth half the presentation.

                                      Haven't seen Apple's stuff, but I do imagine being an American company, their English would be better, and mayyyyyybbbe less cringey overall. But I do hate the way they angle their cameras as like a "Pro camera" as if nobody's done that before. It makes me feel like they look down on their fans for not being knowledgeable and not knowing what else is out there. Worse still, the ultrawides apparently aren't super great either.

                                      Another thing: it's nice to keep things simple for the consumer by just saying "All-day battery life", but when Apple uses this phrase with the iPhone SE, people start to question what "all-day battery life" really means now.

Battery hogs and suitable for low end phones. It is the AMD of yesteryear. Qualcomm is the intel of yesteryear. I hope mediatek does become the AMD of today.
