Is this the Snapdragon 888 or a chipset that was outright completely unused on all phones?

lemon07r, 29 Oct 2020That doesn't make any sense whatsoever... infinity fab... moreYour argument is solely based on core counts. You're not at all taking into account how cores vary. I'm not going to type out a long response on that until you educate yourself on the subject.

I wonder why they chose the name X1, after all, Sony has a video possessor chip called the X1. Just a coincidence I suppose.

joe nodden, 15 Oct 2020I wish they would start a 900 series that uses 2 chips and ... moreThat doesn't make any sense whatsoever... infinity fabric is used to connect chiplets (ccd and ccx). The reason it was needed was to add more cores. However this introduces inter-core latency when you need communicate between the chiplets, which is BAD. Incorporating this design into smartphone SoC doesn't solve anything or provide any benefit because modern smartphone SoCs already have more cores than they even need. The current fastest one, apple's A14, has only 6 cores, we already have android SoC that go as far as 12 cores. What are we supposed to do with something like infinity fabric, add another 12 cores? lmao that's a great way to double power consumption for very little performance gain, at the cost of performance loss in other areas due to the inter-core latency. What we actually need more of is better performance/watt (power efficiency), and single core performance for any significant changes that people would actually appreciate.

Snapdragon 875, 865, 855; Apple A14, A13, A12: If you can find the pattern! It's just a Trade Mark and naming scheme! These company are trying to empty your pocket!! 😂

I wish they would start a 900 series that uses 2 chips and something akin to AMD's infinity fabric to run them both in tandem. Then we could start seeing some legitimate performance. The kind that would be capable of running triple A title games and stuff. The annual new 800 series chip with 25-30% more performance is getting way too boring.

Seems to big ... moreWell, if Qualcomm just wanted to suck money out of OEMs, it would be even more convenient to make chips of 6xx and 7xx without integrated modem like done to 865 because volume of sales is much higher than 8xx series.

So basically an updated 865 with 5nm fabrication. Wouldn't even care about a new flagship-tier chipset as flagship-tier chipsets from 2019 and 2018 can still be relevant for the next three or four or even five years' time.
