Vegetaholic, 11 Oct 2020Sorry but will have to disagree with you. A14 cleary beats ... moreWhat's the point in comparing RISC CPU (ARM) to CISC CPU (x86)?
No matter how blazing fast A14 is, no way it could do things better than CISC CPU!
It's very much like comparing bike engine to car engine!

Stan, 10 Oct 2020I usually don't reply to obvious trolling attempts, bu... moreAFAIK, x86 is not just 'instruction set', it's 'architecture' and building a 'brand-new' architecture which could compete with x86, performance-wise, would take years, with hundred millions dollar to boot. This is the only thing that Apple won't do now; remember how notorious Apple powerPC CPU compared to Intel's at that time? That is the main reason why Apple abandoned powerPC and use Intel Core CPU till now.
ARM? Even Windows 10 for ARM could not do anything worth in ARM architecture!
How could you hope Mac could do better than Windows?
Not to mention porting apps from x86 to ARM are not as easy as flipping ur hands; it takes money, time & human resources to do that

Stan, 10 Oct 2020I usually don't reply to obvious trolling attempts, bu... moreSorry but will have to disagree with you. A14 cleary beats the shit out of intels top gaming laptop cpu's in single core performance. For example i7 10750h is basically top gaming cpu for all the top gaming laptops, not counting extremely expenive ones which uses 8 core intel cpu's. Its scores roughly around 1200 in geekbench 5, though A14 scores 1400 with lower clocks speeds. It is clear that ARM will be a future, as X86 is inefficient and archaic architecture. I am sure Apple Arm first laptop cpu's will wipe the floor with Intel ultra power processors.

Shelwyn, 09 Oct 2020Are new mother boards launching as well? If I buy a mother ... moreIt clearly says there are no new motherboards it works fine with existing b450 b550 or x570. Why the hell you need to change your motherboard everytine you buy cpu? AMD doing amazing thing here, you can still upgrade to latest cpu's having old motherboards, not like Intel with every new gen new motherboard, basically ruining your chances for upgradability.

Anonymous, 09 Oct 2020When Apple launches Apple ARM Mac processor , it's goi... moreI usually don't reply to obvious trolling attempts, but if you take an educated look at A14 Bionic, and compare its single thread performance to x86 CPUs, it actually trails behind Intel ultra mobile CPUs a little. And that's given that Intel is still can't get off its 6 year old tech.
Once you start looking at multi-core performance, Intel dominates. The reason being that for a 6 core mobile cpu, Apple has a 2x4 big.Little design, while intel has only 4 fast cores.
If Apple moves to all-fast core design, then it'll exceed the mobile design TDP, and will be no different than an x86 CPU.
x86 is pretty much mainly an instruction set. It has nothing to do with limitations or possibilities of building a modern CPU.
AMD just released a Ryzen 5000 series, which as per rumors and first party benchmarks, outperforms Intel CPUs in single and multi-threaded applications.

The only reason for Apple to use their own CPU for the Mac line is so that they would increase the profit margin off their laptop, desktop and workstation lines.

I just lost patience with Vega and had to go back to nVidia. Luckily that was around the time nVidia released that FreeSync-supporting driver package, so actually no harm was done since my monitor only has FreeSync.
