Apple reportedly had to choose between 5G and 120Hz for iPhone 12 lineup and it picked 5G

Both increase power draw from the battery and having both would have had a major impact on endurance.

I am happy to see that apple is using 5G in their new technology

Ladha, 13 Oct 2020You have a good point with the variable refresh rate 60h... moreYes. High refresh display is the only feature right now where a user can tell that one has upgraded to a better phone. Scrolling up/down is the most used action in a phone and making that smoother is higher value than 5G, wireless charging,

I have my first iPhone which is iPhone 7. 120Hz is not big factor unless you're a heavy gamer. Apple or iPhone devices are very smooth.

did they use the X60 modem?

iOS Never Again, 13 Oct 2020Says the guy who never used 120hz display as daily driver? ... moreIt looks smoother. But also kill the battery way faster. So it is smoother for half the use time, what's good in this? I prefer the tech to mature and not deplete my phone's battery in 3 hours. Paaaass

I prefer arcade style games, the only racing game I like to play is the F1 on XBOX.

Some small indie developers are quite good. I don't write them off.

Innoman, 13 Oct 2020Still on iPhone 6 . I really need cashI also had an iPhone 6 for a while. It tops out at iOS 12, which I think has stopped receiving security updates (but only just recently). You could probably still rough it for another few months with it (I definitely could, but I'm the definition of a light user). But, even by iPhone's longevity standards, I can understand the need to upgrade. You should check out an iPhone SE 2nd generation (or even a used 7 or 7 Plus, which are still great phones).

As far as the removal of accessories, I'm totally behind it. Less e-waste is good for everyone, as is Apple's goal to be a carbon-neutral company. It's extremely smart and I've been saying it since well before the reveal today. Most Apple users already have the headphones and bricks they need (and probably countless extra ones too). For any of them who don't have everything they need, the included USB-C to Lightning cable is likely the only missing piece for any of them. For people totally new to Apple (likely a small number), they can buy what they need separately. Now the downside: It costs extra. The new iPhones all have 5G, all have hi-res OLED displays, the latest A14 chip, MagSafe, and a new industry-first screen glass material (the latter 3 of which are all Apple INNOVATIONS, and no doubt Android will try to copy MagSafe). This is a pretty big improvement from last year's models and seeing as how Apple has to carefully source many of its components from competing manufacturers, it's reasonable to assume that this is always expensive for them.

Noticing a lot of comments about 90hz. To Apple, that'd be too intermediate a step. It's half-assed. They would either do the full 120hz or just leave it at 60hz, which they did. I only use iPhone (better software, way better industrial design, overall superior experience). I would never switch to Android (tried it once, never again). 5G seems more useful than 120hz if the choice has to be made. But it would have been nice to have both. UI smoothness and better gaming seems to be the main advantage of 120hz so I don't mind it isn't there. I'd rather have better battery life. And, like most iPhone users, I don't game on my phone.
