Apple iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max unveiled with 5G, larger screens, improved cameras

13 October 2020
The iPhone 12 Pro mostly uses the same cam, except for a brighter lens. The Max has a larger sensor and a longer tele lens.

RIP DIY battery replacement. The rounded corners of previous iphones facilitated the easy removal of the screen because your tool can easily slip into the gap. This square design is too tight. You will break the fragile OLED screen. Tim Cook rubbing his hands gleefully rn.

Removing the headphone jack - Courage
Removing the charger and headphones - Saving the Earth
    I say bullshit

There is a big difference between being the "first to implement" and being the "first to perfectly implement". Light bulbs were being made years before Thomas Edison, but yet he engineered it to using by practical and perfect means. Apple is the same; and although they're a bit over-priced and always late to implement a feature, but once they're into it the Android world (despite having hundreds of companies) have no alternative as practical as Apple's. It's easy to hate a company, but the fan-based reasons are only jealousy and envy, and nothing else.

Interestingly the camera rumor from March was completely correct: https://www.tomsguide.com/news/iphone-12-leak-reveals-big-camera-upgrade-but-its-still-behind-galaxy-s20-ultra

And yes, the iPhone 12 Pro Max uses a 1/1.9" type sensor indeed (1/1.7" in gsmarena's article is wrong).

Wow, they did make the push to not include charging bricks huh? and they say it's because they want to be carbon neutral? Hmmm, I think the better term is Profit Neutral. Haha!

Apple Talk about by removing charger , they save million tonnes of CO2 etc etc. But think this. Generally apple users use low power chargers which , although charge slowly, save the battery from degradation over time , like in a period of 3-4 yrs of usage. But now people have to buy new chargers. They definitely will buy high power quick chargers. And that habit of putting phone on charge overnight. SO these will definitely degrade the battery , more than the old slow charger. That'll lead to more battery replacements or even phone replacement , quicker and sooner than before. Now Apple should be asked about the carbon footprint.

Iphone 12 mini looks like a decent contender for an upgrade to many, but 829€ for a phone without charger, without headphones, without headphone jack and only 64GB of memory is really begging to get slaughtered in Covid-Depression era 2020.

This thread is Apple fanboys getting excited over:

                    1. Same design as previous years only now with sharp corners instead of round.
                    2. A new TOF sensor although Apple calls it LiDAR to make it sound special.
                    3. Same cameras as last year unless you buy the pricier Pro Max.
                    4. Missing charger.
                    5. No included earphones.

The only improvements I see from last year's phones is the double base storage and strengthened glass. Apple users are always using phones with cracked glass for some reason.

5G and the new processor are okay but nothing to get too excited about.

Fruit company adds 5g to their phones
Ifans- looks this this the best phone ever😂😂

[deleted post]lol give me a break.

They use mac... moreI checked Google's articles explaining the mechanisms of HDR+ on Pixels, and you're right, Google doesn't explicitly say that they use ML for multi frame stacking. With that said, I have yet to see a single instance where Smart HDR on newer iPhones producing unnatural looking "fake details" that is specifically coming from the ML algorithms Apple uses, and I bet ProRAW will be just as easy to edit and artifact-free as HDR+ RAW given Apple's prowess in image processing techniques.

I'm assuming that the output will be somewhat similar to LR's RAW HDR albeit processing time should be several times faster as we all know that Deep Fusion is done within a second on last year's iPhone 11 Pro. I wonder if this RAW capture feature is available when using Night Mode, too.. iPhone has an option to manually extend the SS up to 30s, and it would be a huge waste if JPEGs were only things we would be getting out of this mode.

At last we get a new product release from a major phone manufacturer that actually presents a real improvement from the old model.

Nick Tagataka, 14 Oct 2020You can also put into the list 1.5x better water resistance... moreI thought most people only needed some splash resistance for being in the shower, but I guess that's an improvement.

If the 4x drop resistance is true(compared to last year), then that's actually a really big deal.

Nick Tagataka, 14 Oct 2020Both HDR+ and Deep Fusion are full of ML-based algorithms, ... moreI don't think so. HDR+ exists since 2013. They use machine learning for digital zoom (since approximately 2016), portrait mode (since 2017), perspective distortion correction(since 2018) for the selfie camera, brightening the face (since 2018) and for the white balance (since 2018). I am quite sure that they don't use machine learning for image alignment. They have a special algorithm for that. Their HDR+ paper doesn't mention machine learning.
