iPhone 12 and 12 Pro get 20% shorter battery life when on 5G

1. Apple will always use the least amount hardware they can get away with. This significantly lessens costs at manugacturing level.
2. Hardware is always set as a hard-limit. Battery for the instance, lower is better but lower capacity means shorter lifespan. Same with RAM. Smaller RAM means users will always buy the next greatest phone with bigger RAM. Shorter lifespan means hard-limit and more smartphone turn-overs.
3. They're crippling cheaper ways of repair from 3rd-parties. The "Genius" bar isn't designed as a repair shop, they're mostly a "replacement" shop or "your device is dead or fix price is high, just buy a new one" shop. Less repairs, more users will buy new phone.
I would call Apple's way of feature additions as staggered or delayed improvements. Even if they knew they could, they're prefer to delay "improvements" for the next iteration to justify the next price increase, they even remove an existing feature just to save a dollar for parts, again in manufacturing level. All comes too well to create profit.
If Apple aims for the best, they'll add 120Hz adaptive display + bigger battery in there together with 5G. For the price they're selling these phones, I won't expect anything less.
Maybe the logo or the branding costs a lot? IDK.

Tom's Guide doesn't mention if it's 5G SA or NSA. NSA is a partial 5G implementation that needs the LTE radio kept on so it's power hungry. 5G SA is rare at the moment.

not just 5g
it's the smaller battery on all models
higher resolution on iPhone 12 than 11 bigger
iPhone 11 battery was much better because 720p made look more efficient
performance increase looking questionable
definitely androids window to catch up

I like smartphones, tablets, PC/laptops, consoles and I had almost all of them. I am not an expert, but certainly above average when it comes to these devices.
And I am almost sure that other people like me are on this site too. So, do not be so negative about this site.
Of course, young people, teenagers, even younger than that, are on this site too. And maybe a lot of misinformation goes around in here too, based on personal preference or brand loyalty. But, that is about everywhere on the internet nowadays. The best option is to know how to read between the lines. And in the end to try stuff on your own. Then you will have a complete picture of what is best for you.

What a joke Apple? In performance maybe you're the top notch but in battery life? The explanation is like Apple making a super car with high performance and efficient 5.0 liter engine but with 5 liter fuel tank capacity lol....

This is the reason why iPhone 12 doesn't have a high refresh rate display because if it did, the iPhone would have no battery life.

I can feel that with iPhone 12s in 4G enabled, the battery life may beat the iPhone 11 and 11 pro by few minutes. No doubt on the 12 pro Max with 4G enabled, it will still beat the 11 pro max.

I own a S20 FE 5G and iPhone 11 and I can tell the iPhone is still faster and more optimised. Battery life is certainly better in the S20 FE because of the bigger battery, but iPhone 11's battery life is actually pretty good given the size of it. The difference is not 1.5x better actually.

No surprise there iOS is hugely inefficient and has poor optimization.
I always do a real life speed test when the latest iPhone come out, and Android always demolish the latest iPhone whether in speed, display, camera and ease of use. And the result is always consistent every year.
The notion that iOS is structurally better than Android is just as fake as the existence of WMD in Iraq.
Just because many uneducated people believe it, doesn't mean it's true.
