Years i'v been thinking this same and can't find any other explanation than that they are envy what we have. If you check android articles, no-one cares to talk about those devices, so basicly only place is come to Apple articles because let's face it, you hate it or love it, but in the end everyone talks about Apple, and when no iPhone users spending their days in Apple articles just shows how good Apple is.

As an android guy, I'm cheering for the 12 mini and wish it all the best. Like it or not, Apple is a trend setter. Ugly notch and camera bump proved this. If it does well, a compact flagship renaissance is imminent.

I'll probably buy the iPhone 12 mini, just to see what it's like. Seems like a nice phone and at least it's smaller than the iPhone 6s or the "new" SE 2020. However, I'm still rocking an original iPhone SE, which for me is a decent size.
In my opinion, phones are too big. If I want to watch a video I'll use my desktop. Likewise if I want to play a game. I have laptops and iPads / Android tablets to fill the gaps.
In my opinion the ultimate phone design was the HTC ChaCha from around 2011. I felt like an extra in a sci-fi film whenever I was using that thing. Nowadays every phone is just some big slab of screen with a minor variation on how the other bits are stuck to the back of it. Too big to fit in a pocket. Too fragile to toss around carelessly. Too expensive to be a semi-disposable tool.

The fact that more and more people have access and buy cheaper android phones, a lot more people in the world will be using Android. That will limit Apple expansion even to other products...watch, tv etc because if a person has Android, isn't gonna buy other Apple products.
No wonder Apple has realized that and stopped the price escalade...on the contrary, they are making cheaper priced iphones like the SE to compete against budget/midrange. It isn't because of the phone itself or the profit because it's minimal. It's to pull people into Apple ecosystem...
PS: i an Android and an iPhone and like both.
