Until OEMs learn how to make good products , Android never improves , google must step up more seriously this year , unlike trying to sell phones for low margins and bit lower quality , they must step up and make nice products like microsoft doing with surface or xbox.

Froyo%=ICS%=15%=sad.
I was browsing through a brochure of a mobile store today and I noticed that for the common folk (i.e.: not tech geeks or anything) phones are differentiated by screen size, os version and camera features. Android is fragmented because OEMs want us to BUY the new OS through a new device and that's a fact. They will provide the minimum support that they can.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2012where is the 4.0.4? i thought its the most stable version of ICSIt is the latest stable version. Look at the table next to the chart. It is written Android 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 have a distribution of 15.8%
I am also running an official Austrian ROM of 4.0.4 on my Galaxy tab 7 Plus which I flashed using Odin.

AnonD-252, 02 Aug 2012Gingerbread is far better and more stable than ICS, and is ... moreDon't jealous man,,, according to your comment, I know that you never test (even get)ICS on your hand and in your own phone,,, :P
I was use ICS on my Xperia ray with 2011 hardware, and it's run smoothly, and better than GB before, for next, many developer app including game developer will move up to ICS, so what you waiting for? thing for future man,, :D

”July has been a good month for Ice Cream Sandwich but a vast majority are still on Gingerbread"
Yeahh and 90% of that increase thanks to indipendent developers out there that made the ics available to vast no of devices be it n9 or htc hd2.. If not then surely the number would have been far lower.. Actually these independent developers could be the only solution to androids fragmentation :)

AnonD-2663, 02 Aug 2012lmfao... Gingerbread was released in 2010, which means that... moreTrue, but as I noted earlier, its not that those using GB don't want ICS, its that they don't have a simple route to get it.

All of this data is useless considering the fact that devices are still being updated to ICS. The numbers will continue to jump up as the upgrades become available. This is jargon.

lmfao... Gingerbread was released in 2010, which means that 75% of android devices are running on software that is 20 months or older.

Quite pathetic considering it was released 8 months ago.
Android fragmentation is stronger today than it was 2 years ago. I find this particularly amusing given the fact that the problem was supposed to have been fixed by now.

If only ice cream sandwich or the jelly bean came out with a lighter version to support on low end devices the user base on the respective devices can increase drastically.

AnonD-32667, 02 Aug 2012The only reason Gingerbread is the highest is because phone... moreYou say this, you are pretty luckyeven to get a GB software... Out Desire HD didnt get android 4, whereas One V, Desire C and Desire S, all are getting officially upgraded to ICS...

This is a worthless article. The fact is, most that are on Gingerbread are because their Manfs/carriers keep them there... no update available. Unless you jump to the Cynaogen route, which has its own set of follies, you're going to remain where your carrier/manufs keeps. You might WANT ICS, but cant get it. That and many phones in the dropped in the GB era aren't perfectly capable to get ICS without issues. This stat seems to relate that people don't want or don't need ICS.
