I had the same problem with my Pixel 3 but Google said it was not covered under the warranty I would have to have it fixed independently. I bought a Pixel 4 XL and so far it's working okay. I also own a Pixel Slate tablet with the same problem.

I broke mine through changing the battery too often, it was so loose the PCB moved causing restarts.
Another great idea from LG that was just a bit poorly implemented.

I've had my Pixel 5 for over a week now. Mine had no gap when I unboxed it and still no gap now after being dropped multiple times. Maybe just a bad batch?

Part of the desing? :D Maybe sometimes are drunked in Montain View? Pay more than 600 Euros in a phone that stands up as a toy phone cover? The world has gone mad, it's like the Samsung S20 FE that has issues on the screen and tries to fix them with updates when it's clearly a poor quality screen material. A hardware fail, like this. Fail! Fail!

Part of the design? Then why is it the gap isn't in the same spot for all the Pixel 5. Why are some without gaps? 🤔

Someone should see and record a proof if that small gap will make bubbles when submerged into its IP designation. Then people can have their rights.

I'd hate to have a defect like that, I just find it stupid that everything is about water resistance nowadays while liquid protection other than what come with a decently build phone is totally useless for the vast majority of users.

I mean it is even used as an excuse to not put the pop up camera, despite the fact that if you compare any IP67/IP68 rated phone with any phone with a pop up sold around the same volumes, the IP rated phones is almost guarantee to be the one with the most reports of water related damage, simply because IP rating cause uneducated use of phones by peoples thinking they have a submarine.
