So many paranoid snowflakes in here. Google Photos literally made me change how I use any smartphone for the better. I am contented that my photos and videos 5 years ago are still available to me since it has UNLIMTED storage backup. yes, the quality degrades a little but it's a free service after all with free 15 GB full resolution

going back to article, it says photos WITHOUT depth info. the vast majority of phones these days, even cheap ones, offer portrait mode. also, this is an editing feature. will it ruin your life if you won't be able to turn the bg of your subject b&w??? God! people will complain on just about anything these days

Do you even understand what privacy means and when it is protected? Google collects anonymized data used to serve you ads from companies that want to sell you products. That's their business model and data collection like this has been used since the first shopping catalogs appeared over a century ago. This is very different than government surveillance from the likes of China and the countries it sells its AI driven platforms (Russia, North Korea and many dictatorships in Africa). If you can't tell the difference, you have bigger problems than Google Photos.

Got a lot of Google HW here; 3 Pixel phones, 4 Nest cameras, 3 hubs, thermostat and Chromebook. If they move forward with this pay plan I will NEVER buy another phone, camera, hub from Google. I'm done with their nickel and dime crap.

BigDisplay, 08 Nov 2020So funny with Google. Huawei lacks of Google services...... moreIt’s really a matter of choosing your own poison. All the companies are mining your data with or without your acknowledgment. In that case Google, Apple and some other US based companies have to go to court, pay fines (sometimes of course). But with Huawei, that will never happen as they are backed up by govt. So Google it is as my poison. But competition is always good for consumers and hope Huawei will succeed.

AnonD-966083, 08 Nov 2020Spoken by a true Google employee. You're disg*usting! So Apple can charge while Google can't! Google is not running charity. More over, no one is really buying that corporations work hard to protect its users data! It is only a myth! Everyone steels and mines user data..... Some openly admits and allows users to manage while others giving just smoke screen promises, charges users ton, yet continue doing what they do.... Just pay the media is share to keep their mouth shut
