09 November 2020
Trade restrictions against the Chinese company allowed Samsung to regain the #1 spot globally after losing it to Huawei in Q2.

[deleted post]Yeah, sure, I've proven it. I'm not the one calling Android BS names like I'm 8 years old troll. Maybe you should look at your lame posts. And you have the audacity to call me Apple fanboy when you're such monumental Android fanboy even Ray Charles can see it and he's blind and dead. ffs.

[deleted post]Oh yes, your argument really shines through. Stop being a dense iOS hater and give literally zero arguments as to why. I've given mine for Android and if you say that's not true you're just delusional and ignorant. Aka an Android fanboy.

AnonD-804996, 11 Nov 2020The thing with user/device share is, Android is found on so... moreWhile i agree that 5 years of support is awesome. Android isn't as bad as you make it out to be. Not even close.
Yes, there are companies that have had historically horrible support. Namely Samsung, LG, Motorola. Although in the past few years Samsung has made strides in improving their update flow. What you have to realize on Android, is that security updates are decoupled from the system base(eye candy). I still have an old Nexus 5x lying around, that stopped receiving security updates in April of this year. That's 4.5 years!
I'm a software dev, so maybe i'm a bit biased, but the beauty of Android is its modularity, allowing it to be tailored to work on pretty much anything. Its linux at its core, SELinux kernel to be precise, which is considered highly secure. Heck, Volvo is making it an OS of their infotainment system. Acura has been doing it already for the past 2 years. I'm sure a few other manufacturers also took the same route, you just don't know about it.
What's the point of 5 years of updates, when the phones older than 3 years aren't powerful enough, and become sluggish? In my opinion it is way better to have an older system, that still works, and yet still get security updates. Most major Android manufacturers support their devices for at least 1.5 years for eye candy, and at least 3 years for security updates. Also, with latest modularization of Android about 3 years ago, the lag in security updates for heavily customized Android versions is about a month, mainly due to service providers being slow. Lightly customized android versions get security updates as soon as google releases them. Unlocked phones with heavy customizations are also fairly fast to get them. If you get a provider branded device, you're asking for delayed security updates, but on the other hand you get an option of discounts, perks and sometimes subsidized devices.

So again, you're being fanboyish. The only lag there is, is for heavily customized android systems to get eye candy. Eye candy has nothing to do with security.

Lastly, no, OS market share is primarily a smartphone market share. A device must report itself somehow to be counted, and usually that's done via the 'useragent' attribute in a browser. Smart TVs don't report themselves as Android. Neither do refridgerators, cars and whatever else android is used for.

I'm happy that you've embraced the "whole thing Apple" and looking past all the issues that it has. Yet that's an exact definition of fanboyism.

Stan, 10 Nov 2020Sure, maybe not possible to convince and apple fan, but i&#... moreThe thing with user/device share is, Android is found on so many trash products from no name Chinese phones and tablets, no name Chinese TV setup boxes, on bunch of Smart TV and they all count into the product share. Apple's 13% is actually basically entirely on flagship products with small percent of those on older basic models like SE and even those got flagship guts, it's just the outside that's dated. And problem that ALL Android devices are in common is just straight up garbage software support. All the devices I've listed above basically come with an outdated Android version from the start and never get an update afterwards. They are permanently stuck on ancient, outdated versions. People here whine how Android is miles ahead of iOS, but the fact is, all these devices run old, outdated and insecure versions of OS. And that's just absolutely terrible in today's world of everything being connected and running our whole lives. Most of people ignorantly think "well, it works so it's fine" even though it's Android 7. No, it's not fine. And what's especially beating Android is its absurd fragmentation, all thanks to this garbage support. Which is why it doesn't matter for me if iPhones have the stupid notch or they don't have 8K displays or periscope submersion mega dive flip flop popup selfie camera or 10.000mAh battery, it's the whole package in the end that got me sold on iPhone. I fell in love with every aspect of iPhone because it just works great as whole. Where Android phones are all out on specs and absolutely stink on software side. And I don't mean by Android being bad by itself, it's bad how it's managed by everyone. The above thing with not getting updates ever, getting updates with massive delays between Google releasing them and users of various vendors actually getting them. And absolutely pathetic longevity of getting them. This side of iPhones or Apple products in general is just outstandingly well done and I only hope Android gets this stuff together soon so I can start even considering Android phones again. It's so bad on Android side I can look past Lightning port, look past the notch, look past locked down NFC, look past smaller batteries, because as whole package, these are non issues. Where with Android phones, you have all these amazing specs and features that you go like wow, that's insane. Just to have all that flushed straight down the toiled by absolutely sad software side of things as mentioned above. I just got soooooo tired of all the nonsense with updating or shall I say not having it updated on Android that I just one day went and bought an iPhone without even really thinking it through. And fell in love with it. Update released? Bam, it's there, that very moment. No waiting for anything or anyone. And it's been like that for 2 years now and based on Apple's trends for last decade, every generation of products gets 5 years of timely updates. That's so long it literally becomes a non issue. Most people will in fact buy new device in 5 years. And what would you go with after 5 years of such stellar software support? On Android, all I got was anger. On iPhone, all I got was amazement how well they manage it. So, naturally I gravitate towards iPhone. It has nothing to do with "being a fanboy" as everyone here so quickly accuse you. It's about experience you have and Android fanboys just don't realize or don't want to realize how much better iOS is in this regard. I just wish Android had this. It got a bit better with time, but it's still terrible if you ask me after seeing how things are done on iPhones for last 2 years of using one.

AnonD-804996, 10 Nov 2020Haha, yeah, whatever dude. You'll never convince me ha... moreSure, maybe not possible to convince and apple fan, but i'll try.
Here's an example of my problem - i hate notches and punch holes. With Apple, I have only one option - a notch. On Android, there are notches for people who like them, punchholes, for those who prefer the opposite, and then there are full screen phones, such as OnePlus 7 Pro, or Asus Zenfone 7 Pro for those who can't stand screen real estate being wasted for something like a selfie camera. I'd instead take a well built slide-out camera any day. It'll be just fine for 100-200 selfies that i could take with my family over the life of the device (while being rated for 300,000).
I could come up with more examples of well defined models. Having choice has never been an issue in any industry. Its only when Apple came along, that a choice became a bad thing in ... wait for it ... 13.9% of global users.

Not everything is bad. Apple app store is much cleaner, and there are virtually no malicious apps, unlike the android play store.

And just to wrap up - here's another one. MacBook Pro has USB-C, IPad has USB-C, but iPhone for some strange reason still has the horrible lightning port, cables for which never last.

You'll never convince me having 5 well defined models a year is worse than 250 all over the place models separated by 5€ price differences between each just because you want to absolutely and totally saturate the market at any given price point. Sorry, just no. You call it "choice", I call it idiocy. And then everyone is shocked they can't properly support that pile of phones and you all even go on and defend that nonsense practice. That's the craziest part actually.
