    Useful for astrophotography

joe nodden, 11 Nov 2020It's for nobody. There's literally no use for thi... moreThere are some people who are so into monochrome photography that shooting photos in RGB sensor then converting them into B&W (which cuts off 2/3 of the light information and halves the luminance resolution in the process) pointless + even wasteful, and rather prefer to use a native monochrome sensor that is much more sensitive to the light to capture images instead. They are in a minority but the need is definitely there.

joe nodden, 11 Nov 2020Explain your point rather than using a valueless saying. Th... moreIt's actually pretty simple.
        1) removing rgb filter makes it more sensitive effectively behaving as it gets 'more' light
        2) since all the received light are not interfered by the rgb filter, they are between black and white. This results in finer contrast.

For people who care about this things above a specific level, they're worth it

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2020Oh dear. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.Explain your point rather than using a valueless saying. There is no use for this.

Lasuto, 11 Nov 2020You must be clever because this camera is not for you. It's for nobody. There's literally no use for this. Anybody who claims to have "shooting in monochrome" as their hobby is straight up lying or is straight up mentally incapacitated. It's so foolish. There's zero benefits to monochrome over a good coverage of the RGB spectrum.

Please never compare Leica with Apple. Please don't disrespect Leica, I know it's expensive but they make products for very specific type ef people. You have to use one to understand the importance of this camera.

                  Nice Panasonic you have there.

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2020 Monochrome-only camera is the dumbest thing ever! Even if... moreNah. For $6000 this is surely overpriced, but it's certainly not something that you should be talking sh*t about.

No, you don't need to use black & white TVs for monochrome cameras to make sense. Their main selling factor is their superior low light performance due to the lack of color filters improving light sensitivity of the sensor by almost 3x.
If you can't appreciate things like this enough, then maybe you could be nicer at least and just leave the damn product alone. It's not like you're being forced by anything to get it.
If you don't like it, then it's not for you. Go get something that suits your demands better. There are people who would be looking forward to having this thing, and that's no longer part of your business.

Only movie studios are going to buy this camera, it's useless for everyone else.

I would love to have this camera but the price makes it impossible to even think about it. Of course there are people out there who can afford to buy it and enjoy it.

Even if it costs only $5,99 ($ six) , it is still worthless !
Who needs black'n'white TVs today !?

Kezkouz, 11 Nov 2020Leica = Apple of photography Don't put Leica and Apple in the same category. Apple doesn't deserve it.

Very expensive and niche product, could be useful for astrophotography, street photo or portraits.

Monochrome cameras are overrated. I've looked into converting my camera and boy, unless I'm shooting in a studio I can't justify the price.

This Leica is the one you hang onto for a couple of years before you flip it.

That's a very expensive camera just for black & white photography. But I guess there are some rich folks who are into this niche form of art.
