othman, 20 Jan 2021wwwwwhhhhyyyyyyy?????? Outrageous isn't it. Why can't they just keep giving us free stuff.

And that's why I bought a cheap pixel 2 off eBay just to upload photos and videos unlimited still, captured from my other devices. Easy!

After that whatever you upload thenceforth will count as part of your online storage - whatever kind of account you have (i.e. 15GB free account, 100GB Drive account @ 1.99/month; 200GB Drive @ 2.99/month etc, etc) but the prior uploads will remain available and freely stored.

How to understand this? Can I keep Gigabytes of Videos or not? Or only with Pixel phone? (few accounts there?)

It was too good to last forever. Think about it as a free trial that is soon to be over. Now you have to decide what to do next.

Those who are subscribed to Amazon Prime and do not plan to cancel their subscription should move their as they're getting a generous storage capacity.

Google is offering 15 GB for free, which is a lot of space for photos, but if you have too many videos and high-quality photos that you need access to 24/7, you need to consider a premium cloud service. They are not charging much for 100 GB, it's just $20 per year. Do you really need more than 100 GB? You gotta pay for it, and Google's prices are fair to be honest. Nobody is offering free unlimited, forget about the past. You can move your old stuff to a PC or something, just keep 15 GB of the recent and important stuff, that's free forever. Google also won't delete the stuff already backed up, so that's a nice thing. Back up your stuff now while you can.

If you have a Huawei phone and you need something cheaper than $20, you could get 50 GB from Huawei Cloud, it's very cheap (less than $12 per year). Samung is offering similar price for their 50 GB on their phones, but it seems they're going to cancel this service soon, which is a shame.

Can't afford that? Nothing is free, but you could invest in SD cards if your phone supports it (and your future phones), you can have up to 1TB on the go, with a one time purchase. If you are an advanced user with a desktop PC, you could make your own private cloud and sync your files to it. It's not a very popular thing anymore but I used to do this in the past. The PC of course has to be connected to the internet all the time. I've seen a great modern sync solution that would work as good or close to Google Photos.

What if say your daily driver is a different phone but you have an old pixel logged in to your Google Photos?

Google offers free unlimited services to get users, when all users are already using it and there is no more competition, Google starts to monopolize. I think this is not just politics, but this is Google's desire to monopolize cloud services. Well done Google, well done.
