Actually for next years release of most flagship phones they are using ufs 3.1 storage which is really the biggest improvement in a while, and is really the only reason to upgrade unlike the past few years where a new processor marginally improved performance.

OP 9 looks like a copy paste of 8 series with probably few "improvement", faster charging, more mp on cams, the soc of course and perhaps higher refresh. But with the performance of current flagships soc 865 or 888, 144hz or 120hz, ddr4x or ddr5, who see any difference on average daily use. Same for cams, my OP 8 pro with gcam does quite same job as my Pixel 4 xl. All these benchmarks etc are just tech advertising to charge more money. Only thing I hate is that useless curved screen, reason why I'll get rid of the 8 Pro and stick to the pixel. With flat screen and smaller dimensions the 8 Pro would have been the perfect phone.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2020Guarantee does not cover if you submerge phone on purpose.
... moreActually, no, I've read most company (the most popular) guarantee terms, and they either cover no kind of liquid damage of any type.
Or they don't even cover accidental drop at all, including in liquids, along with not covering accidental liquid spill.
At the end, except for paid extended guarantee, none will do anything about any liquid related damage.
That's why we say it is "hard to read", as it isn't just about liquid, but sometime about drops in general or other equivalent things.

I don't think anyone expected OnePlus to drop the IP rating from their phones

WazzaG, 08 Dec 2020So the full RRP is looking to be ~$1000, how often do you a... moreIt is Oneplus. Their prices don't fall down.
They introduce new products every 6 months to keep prices high (higher and higher every time, actually) and stop selling "old devices".
Only time that they have somehow better prices are Black Friday and few other days in a year.
Sometimes third party web shops are selling models that they didn't sell for under original price.

So...9E is coming to be the cheapest one....they will do the iPhone trick, and introduce a smaller, worse device for a price of a last generation cheapest model (read: Oneplus 8t), while setting the price of 9 and 9Pro to the new heights.
Samsung will eat them alive with their cheaper S21 lineup.
Maybe it will come without the charger, but in preorder period, you will get wireless charging and maybe earbuds too...
Even without that goodies, the time when Samsung galaxy devices will be cheaper than "flagship killers " prices is officially here.

Oneplus used to be a good flagship killer brand, now it is just overpriced and only has publicity through shill YouTubers.

IDK, 08 Dec 2020If the price of the of the pro is $1000 the Oneplus is dead... moreWith the price of the Snapdragon 888? Keep dreaming.
Unfortunately, the 9 will hit $900 with Pro hitting $1,050. 9E is probably with the newest Dimmensity at $750 because MediaTek rocks.

So the full RRP is looking to be ~$1000, how often do you actually pay the full RRP for something? Not that often.
The easiest way to get it cheaper is not to buy it immediately, wait for the early adopters to pay it, then once the initial rush has gone, it will drop in price.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2020Again with the macro camera
They want to price their phone... moreThe Macro camera isn't mediocre or useless.
Sub-12Mp (mainly the 2Mp one) Macro camera are mediocre.
And using them 10cm or 20cm away make them useless (you are supposed to be almost touching what you want to shot, like really few millimeters away, macro isn't simple close up) and combining Macro with Ultra-Wide make it bad on the edge of not being a macro at all.

People are so stupid for pushing IP rating, they don't even understand properly what it is, they think it is what make the phone water resistant or even "waterproof"...
But in reality it is like :
"Hey, you see this certification that cost millions and will add to the cost of the phone, while not guarantying anything and being totally irrelevant as you don't cover water damage anyway and that a lot of IP rated phones still get destroyed by liquids and non IP rated phones still are well protected enough ? Well, put that on the phone, like yesterday".
But we live in a world where people prefer having a chunk of display removed to "have more display" rather than having a simple slim bezel that is OUTSIDE the display and doesn't do anything negative, like at all, except MAYBE aesthetic (sorry but not sorry because for me the Samsung Galaxy S8/S9 are much more beautiful than the S10 and S20), doesn't even require to be "used to it" while punch holes and notches do require that, or prefer those big chunk of dead pixels over a pop up camera, that did prove to be one of the most reliable feature of modern smartphones but people are still afraid it is "too fragile"...
So, yeah, not that surprising after all.
I bet most people don't even know that IPX7 and IPX8 does NOT cover what IPX5 does meaning an IP67/68 "immersion rated" phone isn't rated for rain or splashes and even less water jets, meaning it should certainly not be taken in the shower and can actually survive short immersions but still die from rain.
If anything, push for ATM rating that actually DOES cover waterproof, meaning water resistance based on depth of immersion and not on time limited short exposure for a non-repeatable scenario.
Or even push for brands to cover water damage, but IP rating, c'mon, it is totally irrelevant, heck, even Organic Certification would make more senses on a Smartphone than IP rating does.
