joe nodden, 17 Dec 2020No neither one is clearly better. As long as there isn'... moreYup, that's why having both is the best option.
Diversity should be mandatory, we should have almost as many phones with punch holes, notches, bezel, pop up, underdisplay camera, and enough of the other options too like no front camera, flip up, slider, second display on the back, detachable camera, etc.

If Android OS and hardware were properly done, it would be really easy to make those sub variants for each model, allowing to target more people which themselves will get more choices, and even if almost all phones have most of those variants, the least popular can simply be produced in less number, which is perfectly what supply and demand is, but making only so little of pop up, bezels and other things is a really bad and ugly idea.

Imagine if almost all phones had sub variants with those designs, and each model had totally unique camera setup, display edge (2D flat, 2.5D, curved, waterfall) and size, it would be awesome, everyone would be able to get the phone he wants.

It isn't only a feeling, technically you really are safer.

Truth Slapper, 15 Dec 2020I don't know if I got this correctly but I think macro... moreIt doesn't work that way.

The pixel size isn't that important, though it plays a role, it isn't what make or break things.
Basically, the quantity of light you'll gather is determined by your lenses, the bigger your front element and usually the more light you collect.
With a bigger sensor, those photons will simply hit bigger pixels, but at the end, with the proper optic so that the lenses make the light hit the sensor correctly, you'll have the same amount of light per pixels.

This is why any 2Mp Macro make significantly better pictures than any 2Mp Macro, and it is also why the Poco F2 Pro with his 2x optical zoom and 5Mp Macro make the best picture of any dedicated Macro camera.
In terms of quality, Ultra-Wide that double as Macro make even better quality, but there is a catch, it is totally stupid to combine those two, it makes as much sense as putting a turbocharger to an electric car.
Here is a good article that explain how to take proper Macro :
                      https://blog.sigmaphoto.com/2013/macro-photography-working-distances-by-robert-otoole/

As you said, Macro aren't simple close up, it goes deeper than that, but it all depend on your focal length.
                      http://www.zen20934.zen.co.uk/photography/images/macro_perspective_drawing.jpg

With high focal length, since you already have a lot of magnification, you don't need to be ultra close to do Macro shots, though you can use higher focal length to either take the picture from a further distance, or to make the subject appear even bigger, as seen here :
                      https://i.pinimg.com/736x/fb/b8/16/fbb816b6c2f22fe0ad70a7639f406235.jpg

The thing is, for Macro the shorter the Focal Length, the closer you need to get, but it goes exponentially, and at the end, you'll need up requiring to be extremely close.
But it isn't the only thing, the depth of field is now a problem, because the minimum focus distance isn't necessarily clear, and the deeper the depth of field, the further from the minimum focus distance the actual usable focus range will be, making so that at the end, you can't get close enough to do anything else than a close up.
Here is an example with the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro :
                      https://www.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/macro.jpg
The 8 have a dedicated Macro, and despite the low quality caused by the low resolution, it gives a much better result than the 8 Pro who have a 48Mp (binned to 12Mp) Ultra-Wide, you can clearly see that not only it isn't capable to focus as close as the OnePlus 8, but it also takes quite a long distance to actually reach a somewhat usable focus, and this is not what you want on Macro.
Here is how close you "need" to be with a 20mm :
                      https://i0.wp.com/sonyalpha.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mitakon-20mm-f2-supermacro-4-4-5x-15.jpg
Considering Ultra-Wide have shorter focal length, very deep depth of field and not that short minimum focus distance, it is the worse possible scenario.
Dedicated DSLR macro lens have much better focusing characteristics.

When properly done, the Ultra-Wide Macro can look quite good :
                      https://i.gadgets360cdn.com/large/oneplus_8_pro_camera_macro_1591959615233.jpg
You also can see how bad the 2Mp Macro is.
But compared with the 5Mp of the Poco F2 Pro, it is night and day :
                      https://imgur.com/a/Fi25ixA

So there are no reasons to keep a 2Mp or even a 5Mp for Macro, they could perfectly put 12Mp sensor, it would be much better.
