Easy to explain
Samsung, Huawei and Apple = most popular brands in Europe and Asia (Xiaomi and Oppo are irrelevant outside China/India).
OnePlus and Google = praised by geeks, because they still think OP is any faster than other phones with same CPU and illusion that stock android is any good.
Pixel 5 is worse than 2019 phones like Samsung S10e, Sony 5, OP7T Pro, Iphone 11, LG G8/V50 and Huawei P30.

Anonymous, 26 Dec 2020But Mi 10 ultra lacks water resistance. Pretty sure it's water resistant but just no ip rating. Anyway, you shouldn't go swimming with your phone. No phone manufacturers' warranty covers water damage even for phones that are certified ip68.

I'd agree with the OnePlus 8 Pro. It was that particular phone that stopped me from buying the Sony Xperia 1 ii. Despute the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack, that OnePlus is easily a worthy Google Pixel alternative for a much cheaper price than the Sony.

I'm disappointed that you haven't touched the Sony Xperia 5 mk II, which was clearly the best phone of the year. Followed closely by the Sony 1.2, and then the OnePlus 8 Pro.
Overall, I was quite disappointed as there wasn't much innovation this year.
Huawei/Honor: involved in trade problems
Microsoft, Nokia, Blackberry, Palm: nothing to show
HTC, Motorola, Lenovo, Alcatel: nothing to show
Meizu: very quiet
ASUS: RoG 3 removed some gaming features, and upped the price on Zenfone
Google: i don't even...
LG: going backwards
Samsung: put in the bare minimum
Apple: new mini iPhone is great
Oppo/Vivo: some innovations
ZTE: Axon20 selfie-screen is innovative
OnePlus: pretty lame offerings, except their new flagship which is awesome
Xiaomi: pushing the envelope, but price increases weren't liked
Realme: standout competitor when it comes to value (modders love it)

Xiaomi flagships have decent enough water resistance without an official IP rating.
Go look up some tests on YouTube.
They are more enough to handle the ocassional accidental drop in water.

This is true.
Got a couple of calls after IPhone 12 series launch from people thanking me for importing and delivering the MI 10 ultra at their doorstep.
All these guys were previously using Apple or Samsung flagships.
They wanted an upgrade, were disappointed with the Exynos inside Samsung S20/Note 20 Ultra and lackluster leaks of the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
These folks seemed super happy with their decision to avoid Apple this year. Plenty of them saved around Rs.40k by ditching on the weak iPhone 12 Pro Max.
