Are you re-defining the laws of physics and the terms governing photography? Or are you just breaking bad?

YUKI93, 22 Dec 2020If you remember the Huawei Honor 20 Pro from 2018, that is ... moreAnd yet, all their promo photos were taken with Full Frame DSLRs. lol
Huawei has great cameras, but their capabilities and real numbers are grossly exaggerated.

Shui8, 23 Dec 2020I dont know I've shown to u before, but here's mi... moreThose are great macro shots!

Think about how much better it would be to have :
          *UW + Wide (continuous zoom).
*Periscope Telephoto with Portrait and Macro mode (continuous zoom and deep focus control).
Only two sensors, no cropping ever.

In fact we can do better and use a single sensor :
          http://imgur.com/gallery/tIXYDCW
I have since improved the concept but didn't make a model for it yet.
This doesn't necessarily take less space than 3 or 4 sensors, but it save costs by only requiring a single sensor which can be a total monster.
For battery, just adding a single mm in thickness will have a greater result, Smartphones are too thin nowadays anyway, the ultra slim trend is almost as bad as the 2Mp sensors one.

Those insects are so tiny, sized as tip of a pencil. And that yellow spider? Sits on my jeans pants. I couldnt even see those with own eyes. Close range at 2.5cm. Yes, Poco F2 macro are beautiful (as I observe, focus area not close as mine), no need to be close to object but at the same time it cannot be used as human portrait shot. Thats what I mean in the first place. Its a separate sensor. Poco F2 portrait 2x zoom use digital crop from main sensor. If I have a choice, I choose portrait telephoto lens over dedicated macro, anyday (at least that is my preference in photography).

With main+telephoto+UWA(macro) combination, can save space for bigger battery and to me its a lot more practical.

Well, the Poco F2 Pro would like to disagree, his dedicated Tele-Macro take by far the best macro shots of any Smartphones despite being only 5Mp :

But as of now, there are none yet for smartphone, therefore implementation using UWA are better.

Shui8, 22 Dec 2020UWA with AF takes better macro than additional 2mp dedicate... moreActually, the UW doesn't take better macro shots, it only take better resolution/quality ones because of the resolution difference.
Except fisheye, there is nothing less appropriate for macro shots than an Ultra-Wide.

I totally agree that 2Mp sensors are totally useless because of their low resolution, but a 12Mp dedicated Macro would blow any UW out of the water, for several reasons :

*A Macro lens is almost a Telephoto, while you don't want too much focal length, you still want quite a bit of it.
Meanwhile an Ultra-Wide is about short focal length, though like the Macro, you don't want too little of it.

*having more magnification allow to either take even closer look to the subject, or to take your macro shot from further than with a shorter focal length.

*The shorter the focal length, the closer you'll need to be to take the same macro shot.

*The depth of field is quite important too, a deep one is useful for taking thing far away, but for close range it is quite a negative thing as the minimum focus distance isn't necessarily usable, and the deeper your depth of field, the more distance you'll have before being really in focus.

Mix all that with the facts that :
*Ultra-Wide have a really deep depth of field.
*Smartphone's Ultra-Wide have a further minimum focus distance than any Smartphone's macro.

And it is a no brainers that what we need is a Telephoto with continuous variables magnification (zoom) with a deep focus control (capable of getting shallow depth of field that by itself already give true Portrait, and close minimum focus distance, both together gives a real Macro).
But sub 12Mp Telephoto in 2020 should be considered a crime against humanity!

Also the depth sensors have tons of uses that aren't possible yet because they have a too low depth map resolution, but it have nothing to do with the telephoto.

If already has a telephoto sensor, no need any depth sensor, unless its a ToF or LiDAR (greatly helps AF in low lights).

Like I said, main+tele+UWA are way way better than main+UWA+2mp+2mp.
