I dont get it...
Why is Samsung trying to invent the wheel?
The Maemo/Meego dev team are now free, and they have a very very VERY advanced, mature and perfectly looking OS in their hands, Meego Harmattan!
GO f.f.sake Sammy, hire those guys and destroy the competition!!!

AnonD-52067, 23 Aug 2012Yes it in fact is. Here are the Q2/2012 numbers: Bada...... moreThere is just one galactic proportions difference. Pretty much all the Bada users hate BadaOS where pretty much all WP users like their OS. Thats a difference worth mentioning...

Come to think about it, Samsung has very strong management people. If a platform is unlikely to take off, just kill it, rather than try to maintain it half-dead like Nokia's symbian. Eats into profit margin, and spoils the brand name. Had Nokia leaders learnt that from Samsung, they may still possibly be the handphone leader by a good margin.

AnonD-52067, 23 Aug 2012Jolla doesn't own MeeGo. In fact they use a community devel... moreMore importantly...doesn't matter if right now Jolla are well backed to pull some MeeGo magic soon BUT...who the eff is in charge of the code base??? Do you have any hints on that? MeeGo's ragtag of hardcores vs. Tizen vs. old Maemo crew? Who?

Ppl may argue that NO ONE is/should be in charge. It's open source. So anyone can pitch in. That's not what I meant. What I mean is there's a critical need of an organization to sharpen the focus.

Here's a newsflash to those not in the know... Samsung sucks at OS side/firmware development. Period... Android, Bada or whatever. I use i9100g on CM10 nightly and past experiences since stock GB told me that I always have to rely on the better XDA ppl to push out better fixed ROMs. It's precisely why I rolled my eyes when MeeGo hardcores rejoiced at Tizen's formation w/ Samsung's backing.

It will be another failure like Bada. With Samsung taken MeeGo platform and messed the UI with their tasteless designer, it'll just another copy of Android and will dead in several years.

MeeGo was the future until one stupid Canadian in Finland killed it.

AnonD-52067, 23 Aug 2012Yes it in fact is. Here are the Q2/2012 numbers: Bada...... moreDepends on where you get your numbers.

              WP: 5.1 Million
              Bada: 3.3 Million

And that's with basically just 3 OEMs supporting it (2 haphazardly). Motorola and Sony will not support it for obvious reasons. Huawei and ZTE are too busy churning out cheap Androids in China (that aren't even integrated with Google Play or Search). WP is growing and will only get better once WP8 is release.

Anonymous, 22 Aug 2012another failed project... why not try buy Symbian Samsung?Yes. It's a visible & very good idea. Symbian Belle FP-1/FP2 is now at it's very best. Symbian is a Mature, Stable, User Friendly, and Very Capable OS:

Easy for Samsung to make Symbian Carla Dual Cores, Symbian Donna Quad Cores, and also increase it's Screen Res. Samsung can make a deal with Accenture to handle Symbian's & it's apps developments. Or Samsung may just buy Symbian with the best deal to strengthen it's home grwon OS.

Symbian can do excactly what other OSes can do and cannot do.

                    Symbian is so complete:
                    + File transfer via Bluetooh
+ It has External Card Slot
+ It has FM Radio & also FM Transmitter
                    + USSD Code Support
                    + HDMI Port
                    + DLNA
                    + NFC
                    + USB On the GO
                    + Multiple Language Support
+ The Champion of Multi Tasking (It can open more than 20 apps without having to force close any single app)
+ The OS is so Light & Very Power efficient (Battery, Processor, & RAM are all very efficientlu managed by Symbian)
                    + And many other things.

Please check Samsung I8910 Omnia HD. It used Symbian S60 rel.5. It rocks & it's a succesful product in it's time. Why not try the current Symbian Carla and Donna - which is light years much more advanced than Symbian S60.

Samsung is a kind of guy who doesn't bow & doesn't want to be dictated by anybody. Samsung is independently using Android, WP, Tizen, and Bada. We know it.

Samsung may think and consider Symbian coz Samsung is a free man.

RejZoR, 22 Aug 2012Thx Samsung for screwing us all (the Samsung Wave users). A... moreWP is certainly not a proven option. It's a massive failure like Kin was. After some billion dollars worth of marketing, WP still only able to sell some 4 million units per quarter and slightly less than Bada, that has practically no marketing. I would stay far away from WP. It's a dead man walking OS.

AnonD-9745, 22 Aug 2012No, it's not outselling Windows Phone anymore. Last time I ... moreYes it in fact is. Here are the Q2/2012 numbers:

                        Bada....4,209 M units
                        WP......4,087 M units

So Bada is still ahead of WP. :) And Samsung haven't burnt a billion dollars to market it, like Microsoft has done. WP is such a massive failure.

In fact they use a community developed fork of MeeGo called Mer. It's free for anyone to use. Just pick up the sources and go for it. Here's some info about Mer:

                            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mer_%28Operating_System%29

I hope that once Jolla shows their MeeGo phone, Samsung or some other company will see the light and pick up MeeGo too and it will have a bigger base.

Samsung should just scrap Tizen and pick MeeGo instead, like Jolla did. Jolla will bring out its MeeGo phone out this year well before any Tizen from Samsung. It's stupid to waste time and energy for Tizen, when you already have a fantastic open source OS in MeeGo.

After Jolla came up with their MeeGo plans, I've lost interest in any Tizen phone. I'm getting Jolla's MeeGo phone. I rather support a small company from a small Nordic country and who are ex-Nokia with strong open source mentality, than a giant like Samsung. I'm so happy that MeeGo was revived.
