Some might actually prefer asymmetrical designs as it is easier to tell of the phone is upside down or not.
But give me a phone with a pop up like the Poco F2 Pro that have a really slim top bezel looking symmetrical with the bottom one (too slim for a camera) but hosting real ambient light and proximity sensors along with a speaker grill, and I'll be happy!

Much better than notch or ugly hole.
Also better than zero symmetry. Pointless to have screen go up to the frame if bottom has 2-3mm more because connectors.
Also, ugly what apple and google do, make sides thicker to hide real size of bottom bezel.

Because at that account, I can also say that the pop up camera is already an underdisplay camera, it just moves out of the display to take a pic, but the rest of the time it stay under the display.

Andreidinutu, 11 Jan 2021Who cares about privacySure, who care about something that can leave you the victim of identity thief, one of the worst modern day experience someone can have and who can go as far as costing life.
Oh yeah, right, ignorant uneducated peoples, that's who !

And that's not even going into all the blackmails and open doors to dictatorship territory here.

                    You know what ?
If you don't care about privacy, why don't you stream what happen in your house 24/24 7/7, you'd make money from that, also show us a picture of your ID card and give us your email login details, after all, you don't care about that private stuff right, even just your SMS history.

You say that as if it was a bad thing, which is funny coming from someone who probably think a hole in a display is a normal thing.
What's the issue of using a phone with a pop up camera ? Those are among the best phones and this is by far one of the best solution for hosting the front camera along with bezels.

It is, you just can't conceptualize how.
Many do that with their laptop, including MOST security experts, who even advise such practices, and smartphones are way less secured than laptops, even Zucc, the privacy destructor lord himself do it.

Leaving an issue unchanged isn't the best solution.

2 : It gives privacy illusion, which is way more dangerous than any other things, this is the exact same cognitive bias that make IP rated phone die often because of water, people think IP rating mean full waterproof while it is only a mild indication of a water resistance the average phone has, result people use their phone underwater when they shouldn't, and many regrets it, many think IP68 is shower ready while it require a totally different certification for that (IPx5/x6).
Here it is the same, but with privacy, we don't need camera to be hidden from us, we need to be hidden from camera.

This is no less private than a regular smartphone with a hole punch, notch, or bezels. Nobody puts sticker/tape over their phone selfie camera now and so right now that camera can spy on you just as much as one under the display.

The horrible front camera quality, privacy danger by illusion of safety, a spot on the display with lower quality, serving as a beta tester without ever getting the final product, all that because of hype.
