Android-Authority, 22 Jan 2021Haha you had to visit Microsoft site to dig for problems? ... moreI didn't need to dig for anything. Search on google for Surface pro 7 thermal throttle and it's on the top, for you.
It's not a matter of firmware, the thermal design on such thin machine, it is what it is

Every site.. Apple, Nvidia, AMD, Asus, etc. will have a bunch of people with issues for any type peripheral out there. There will be some users complaining about something or the other.
From what I understand, it is a firmware problem.
One can just install another copy of Windows to solve the issue if it arises.

      Here, suit yourself.

And I never said I have a Pro 7, I have the 2017 model. But since the design didn’t change, the thermal design is the same too. Read the link, those are several users complaining about it.
If you keep not believing, buy one yourself and give it a spin. It throttles to 0.4 GHz during video calls. Not rocket science, video calls

SigmaR, 21 Jan 2021What is with your iPad obsession? What the hell does it... moreIt doesn't throttle on Cinebench.
It throttles on a loop of Cinebench....meaning repeated tests on Cinebench.
Those are two different things. Cinebench is hardly a representation of throttling in real world apps. Sure the Surface might throttle if one starts playing heavy games but it certainly won't in basic tasks.

You said you use Surface pro from 2017... How come you have the surface pro 7 then?
        Which is it exactly?

I don't have any obsession with iPad. All I said is that "You don't see examples of IPad throttling since there isn't much support for heavy duty applications like we have on Windows which will push the cpu enough to create a potential for throttling"

What the hell does it mean everyday life? Cinebench is simulating a load on the cpu, and it can happen in several ways. I use it to edit 60mpx pictures on the go and it throttles as crazy. No matter what excuses you put, the Surface Pro does throttle. All thin notebooks do, but the SP is even worse than average

It's only throttling in "repeated loop of Cinebench" which is a benchmarking tool. It will throttle as there isn't going to be desktop/laptop grade cooling inside. It isn't throttling in day to day usage.

Can the iPad even run Cinebench?? Lol

              - from Notebook Check: "Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Core i7 performance can throttle by almost 30 percent over time. Don't be fooled into believing that the Core i7-1065G7 CPU in the latest Surface Pro 7 tablet can perform roughly the same as the Core i7-1065G7 in a "proper" Ultrabook. The tablet version of the processor can be around 22 percent slower than the similarly equipped 15-inch Surface Laptop 3"

And this is just one example, you can easily find dozens

I don't care why and/or when, but it does get hot even under light load; and I also don't care what iPad does, when and why. I have had a Surface Pro since 2017 and a Surface Laptop since 2018, I know what I am talking about. Do you though? Or you just care what they do in Cupertino?

Windows actually has demanding enough applications to put the Surface Pro in scenarios where it has to throttle. Surface pro doesn't throttle in normal tasks like we do on ipad or Android tablet.

You don't see examples of IPad throttling since there isn't much support for heavy duty applications like we have on Windows which will push the cpu enough to create a potential for throttling.

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2021What "Windows Experience" do you want from these ... moreMost people apart from tech geeks don't want to use VM or something else just to get Windows working.
Most average folks don't want to go through multiple steps just to get their basic Windows experience.

It's just easier when Windows is the primary OS.
"IT JUST WORKS"... Remember this line that Apple folks use all the time? Where's the simplicity and ease of use that we get on Windows that most people are familiar with?
Apple logo fans can continue to buy their Mac-Quack.

M1 can't even connect to an external Gpu.
Neither systems are for hardcore gaming though.

Much needed change to 16:10. It was ridiculous to be called a professional laptop and have cinemascope screens. In fact, 3:2 is a more suitable ratio for work. But well, I think Excel sheets work better in the wider 16:10 ratio.

That said, it is silly of Lenevo to not provide individual Function keys in the ThinkPads. So much of work uses keyboard shortcuts and it is inconvenient and sometimes impossible to use the dual key combination with a third Fn key. There was a even the tiny 12-inch X40-X60 Thinkpads with 4:3 screens had full size, non chiclet, 7-row keyboard with an integrated make-shift number pad.

Surprising that the X1 Carbon has a wider chassis and still can't do that. And Lenovo, please, for what's supposed to military grade toughness for road warriors, how is it that an international warranty is not standard?

                                      Parallels enhances the Windows Experience.
                                      1. It allows MacOS to run side by side with Windows in coherence mode.
                                      2. Parallels can freeze Windows 10 when it is inactive for a period of time, conserving battery.
                                      3. It allows you to clone and restore the VM fast and efficiently.
                                      4. It allows both OS to run any files you want.

The only thing you would ever want native Windows is, Gaming.. So you can squeeze that hardware ever so much to get your max performance without the virtualisation layer. But look, here is the intel 11 gen system, would you want to game on such as system? Especially when M1 with Virtualisation beats Gen 11 in benchmark in native?
