A better ISP is also to be expected.

LOL, 02 Feb 2021Mediatek is only used for those low-range budget Android ph... moreMediatek's 5G midrangers are as good (800, 800U) or even better (820) than Qualcomm's SD765G...

As in most countries we won't see mmwave in 3 or 4 years, 5G carrier aggregation is a better choice yet.
Except Snapdragon 888, all others hasn't 5G carrier aggregation.
Yes, when even Dimensity 700 allows carrier aggregation when 865 doesn't!

    Plus 1000 serie, 1100, 1200 has hardware AV1 decoding.
    Even 888 hasn't!

But true, I would like to see more expensive devices with Mediatek's...
With OIS, Telephoto x4 or x5...things like that.
Mediatek's has dedicated AI cores (when Qualcomm mostly uses GPU and DSP) and capable ISP to handle better cameras than the popular 64+8+2+2.

You read the brand...that's what kids do!

Mediatek is only used for those low-range budget Android phones: around $200 USD.

Mediatek is competing on price, not quality. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking that it's an upcoming rival to Qualcomm, similar to what AMD is to Intel for desktop CPUs.

AnonD-731363, 16 Jan 2021But not better than SD888 and laughable throttling battery ... moreIt doesnt heat that much like sd 888, as you read the specs, it was said that it has 4 a78 cores instead of 1 X1 core and Three a78 that made the SD888 Overheat without cooling system. The SD 888 draws the same power with the 7nm 865 due to the X1 core. In the Case of Mediatek Dimensity 1200, they choose to maximize the efficiency in 6nm by using 4 a78 cores a55 cores, HMP which is a big deal, and their own heterogenous technology.

Even among other expensive phones, Xperia sells the least. They have almost zero percent marketshare.

                  YUKI93's girlfriend bought the Xperia.
That should be proof that Xperia is selling like hot cakes.

This phone with Dimensity 1200 will easily sell more than Xperia 1 II and 5 II combined.

They were the only real competitor at Pentium era, despite yes, weaker performance
They bought on-die L2 cache (P3 (pre Coppermine vs Thunderbird), this was a funny one for Intel
They bought value at first Duron (Celeron was untouchable for awhile)
They bought the first 64bit CPU and Dual-core CPU (and if it were up to Intel, which they've admitted in interview, you'll only see those two tech at supposedly 5-years later at that time), which often people overlook.

And for awhile, how did PC market look without AMD? Global market decline, expensive but same crap 'new-gen' CPU. So, tell me. Where did Mediatek fit? It NEVER had Qualcomm. And if wasn't for ARM's SoC license model, you won't even see Mediatek. So don't bring AMD's into the mix. Mediatek is no way in the league as AMD.

Dometalican, 13 Jan 2021Seriously? No competition? That's pathetic...You must be insane to think Mediatek is a competitor to Qualcomm? I give a notch to Samsung, and some to Huawei... But Mediatek? Come on, you know even MediaTek don't position themselves that way. When you have a new announcement of a product aiming at a older SoC, you know it not there....

if they can sell their SoC with the same price tag as Qualcomm's 700-series, it would be a no-brainer for a lot of phone makers. Better performance per price.
