Don't hold your breath for the LG Rollable. LG still has some work to do.

You sure don't have issue with Sony's 21:9 aspect ratio Mr.hypocrite.

Un-folded screen is for gaming, movies, multitasking, etc.

OfficialTRider, 13 Jan 2021This is definately a better approach than foldables. There ... moreIt was silly. Outward foldable was many years possible, but they wanted to do inward folding
In my own design work I identified inward folding hinge curvature expansion schemes back decade before last at least. I dismissed it as a weak design point, and so we see it. Folding is a natural thing. I can see that a special atomic scheme might accomplish it, but that sort of precision mechanics is not visible yet.

With outward folding, wrapping, you keep the fold curvature many times bigger, around a segmented case fold. You get two sided screen, a normal 4:3/16:9 ratio. In something from a 2 inch long 5 Inch long package close to a normal phone, which holds out to a normal phone or tablet. You never have to unfold it to use it, reducing folding a lot. The only thing you have to do, is deal with the hinge voids, which is easy enough and avoid join creasing coming through from use. Technically, maybe over 100x better.

So, an easy to do rollable piece of plastic is worth more than a foldable piece of plastic, which is worth more than a rigid OLED. It just doesn't seem right? Far out, where are those advanced features like pop up cameras gone, or maybe they they should just make a cheap version of this, like those curved screen TV's?

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2021Fold 1 = external screen is too small. Fold 2 = external ... moreNo, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2's screen is only slightly smaller than the iPad mini's screen.

This is definately a better approach than foldables. There are seams visible in foldables after some usage, I don't thing there will be any seams visible in this rollable.
But I don't that that the screen is going to be durable.

Fold 2 = external screen has 25:9 ratio (even worse). That is indeed tv control.
Mate X = you always touch screen while holding the device. Cant leave on any surface this way to prevent scratches. Worse than Samsung idea.

All them are much smaller screen than the already small iPad Mini.

Foldable phones should be just like Z Flip and Moto Razr.

Great Job LG. I am sure we will find a few people complain about price. But these guys are best ignored. Premium products at the cutting edge of smartphones tech are supposed to cost premium money.

So glad to be part of the premium ecosystem of Android that encourages innovation and offers such cutting edge devices in the hands of consumers.

Giving users what they want - Another victory for Android in the smartphone domain.

No wonder Android wins OS of choice on smartphones Award every year.
                              Crushing the competition every year!!!
It's just Addicted to WINNING! and the consumers win because of this approach as well.

Price is indeed high but it also makes sense. They're not making a product meant to compete with other "origami" devices this year. LG's risking it just like Samsung did with the first Fold. Hopefully it sticks or at least makes a real impact in the industry. No one wants another "flexpai" and candybar style is reallyyyy getting boring now.

Screen is not LG's, but BOE's, all other components are bought except battery. This increases price compared to in-house stuff.

Screen tech is indeed too expensive, I bet is way more than foldable oled.
Too many tests and adjustments until final product is ready .

They dont sound so cool but sure
