BS Apology. No one ever blamed the devs, everyone knows whose fault this is at CDPR. They crunched their employees like hell befote launch, and with all these empty promises of reducing crunch, they're going to be following an even more intense patching schedule. Guess who will be putting in the 100s of unpaid overtime hours, yep, the very dev.s CDPR tries to pretend to care so much about.
Honestly, CP2077 is a testament when lies meet reality. Had they treated their developers with the due respect, and allowed them sufficient staffing and resources, they could've developed for all both base consoles and the PC simultaneously, aka what basically EVERY AAA studio now does.
This whole LEAD platform and backporting is a relic of generations prior. Both the xbox consoles and playstation consoles are easy enough to develop for that you could easily find the right talent for your team, if you truly were concerned about crunch.

They could have at least tested the entire playthrough of the game on every platform, if they didn't have the time for that they could have used the gigantic fan base to beta test the game

Honestly, it's a fail from all sides of both players and devs thought a game like this should run on old hardware. The game would have benefited more from having spent the dev time on Better world building, AI improvements, and more story, and that's ignoring the multitude of bugs that persist even in the PC release.

CDPR Tried to cash in on that sweet old gen console money and paid the price while console gamers thought their funky old hardware would be enough.

Engagetm, 14 Jan 2021Stop complaining a game is a game, and cyberpunk was well d... moreif you spend money on a game you expect it to work. They should have delayed consoles and made it next gen only.

They've already stated that they will be improving performance on base gen consoles. The 2 upcoming updates claim to do just that.

AnonD-909757, 14 Jan 2021I am 30Yo (one of the info I don't hide about myself),... moreSmall world! I'm 30 as well. But yea, still wish they added Keanu Reeves as DLC considering the constant delays.

I started gaming in 1984 on a ZX Spectrum and mostly stopped at the PS3, I find it unacceptable to spend £50-£80 for an unfinished game.
Complexity for complexity's sake has ruined games, it's no longer about how well it plays but how much there is to do (even if it's repetitive and shallow) and how great it looks while you do it - I just can't get excited any more.

Combined, the consoles make a bigger market than pc so I don't understand why priority doesn't go where the most money is so that's definitely a repercussion of their choices. I really enjoyed this game on the ps5 but it's clear the damage is done. My ps4 friends all have lost interest in the game. Sad...

How about addressing the pathetic AI that makes this game fell like it's from the 90's. Game looks great but I shouldn't be able to take out a group of enemies then come back to them less then a minute later in the exact same spot doing the exact same thing.

I've been lucky. I'm playing on Xbox one and have only had minor issues. Nothing different to what Skyrim had when it first came out.

Mircea, 14 Jan 2021They couldn't make this run in 8 years, what makes peo... moreThey haven't actually been building got all of those years fyi. Apparently development only spanned 3 years, with a lot of rewrites.

Software development is very hard on something this ambitious. They fucked up not just skipping old Gen consoles though, would have made for a much better game in general.

This is probably the most complex and visually advanced game on the market. In a sense, a technological pioneer generating progress in games. I am not surprised by the mishaps, although the game could still wait for the premiere.
Nevertheless, Cyberpunk 2077 is a stunning game in many respects.

Stop complaining a game is a game, and cyberpunk was well done even though there were some hiccups, those who keep moaning about this kind of stuff have no idea how much hard work goes into making a game clearly and also have no idea that management are pushing too hard just for the money, the developers are doing their best with what they have to work with, suck it up and be patient, sure it had a bit too much hype but that's what happens with the AAA games every single year just let it go and enjoy gaming as a gamer.

Akinaro, 14 Jan 2021Not really. All games today work in the same way as before,... moreFull disclosure. The performance complaints were similar, but reversed, for GTA IV, when it launched later on PC. It was poorly optimized and required a lot of fiddling with settings. Same with multiplayer.
Games does use a lot more bandwidth today compared to the early noughties. Because fast broadband is now common. The attempt to use more natural interaction with more processing power at hand obviously makes things more complex and when "AI" fails it gets more jarring.

I do agree software houses tend to abuse the ability to patch issues post release more than they used to. That has to change or they should be forced to sell early access with a massive discount and clear disclaimers.

AnonD-909757, 14 Jan 2021I am 30Yo (one of the info I don't hide about myself),... moreNot really. All games today work in the same way as before, AI scripts in new games are not more complex than ones in eg. GTA4, gameplay is also really the same if not even more simplified because of consoles.
Difference is that today games have just more assets and content and they are in better resolution, but game mechanics are not more complex. You still have the same codes of "if->then", for all missions and behavior scripts, its just more of it, but its not more complex.
What more you have is compatibility issues between platforms, especially regarding shaders and memory optimization, where consoles and PC use them in different way.

Problem with cyberpunk is that ex developers said that this game is filled with quickly made patches that are put over other patches, scripts are all over the place(so lots if different files need to be loaded because references are stored in many files), shaders optimizations are non existing, render occluded objects is crappy in CP because many objects have wrong settings and are still rendered when player are not looking or not rendered when needed. AI scripts are literally from 2007 and porting between platforms where made without plan.

There are "engines" which are written code with an interface so you can change things without writing new code all the time. Basically programs you run and use.

We don't write code to change settings on phones for example. Just tap settings and the code does it's thing. Same with games nowadays with available engines.
