I'm still on the fence with regards to the M1 Macbooks, they sound like great laptops for general tasks. I have no idea how Apple intends to fit midrange/high-end GPUs in there, no doubt they are working on it, but it's definitely lacking right now (admittedly the M1s are still brand new).

The new 2020 Apple M1 macs are pretty good, for the reason of supporting iPhone Apps and effectively giving +50% more battery life. However, this is a Gen-1 product, so I would stay away.
The best Macbooks are the:
A: Late-2019 rMBP 16in, with 8c/16t Core-i9, and M5500 Pro-8GB dGPU
B: Mid-2015 rMBP 15in, with 4c/8t Core-i7, and M370x-2GB dGPU
C: Early-2015 rMBP 13in, with 2c/4t Core-i5, and Intel HD Iris iGPU
D: Late-2012 uMBP 15in, with 4c/4t Core i7, and GT650M-1GB dGPU
...However, I have a feeling maybe just maybe, Apple is going to remove the TouchBar and introduce a TouchScreen to the MacBook Pros. As well as a 360' swivel hinge. Thereby becoming an Lenovo Yoga competitor. And they'll do that for either the 2021 models or the 2022 models, which should ship with a better Apple M2-Pro chipset.

Now running Mojave and is my main computer for daily tasks, save for video and audio editing. Would be happy if my 2011 Asus (which was one of the upper tier back then) would still perform in W10 like my MBP does in Mojave... but it just doesn't.

My 10 year old Dell is an absolute brick made of plastic, formatted 100 times, screen is absolutely terrible, it's not a laptop anymore. It's a compact PC because it's too heavy, too hot to touch, too noisy and lets say the battery is useless. Macs just age better. You can get a 1000 euro macbook air with M1 it it's literally worth every cent. I'm so tempted to switch to MacOS (as I already have a separate windows laptop for work). Just waiting for the updated models with thinner bezels.

Saying uh oh why are you trying to install Linux on a laptop that wasn't specifically made for Linux is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. And giving car analogy is even worse. It's an OS for desktop and laptop devices and shouldn't and doesn't care how device was tailored for it (or not). So WLAN module isn't supported. I'd easily swap it with another. If it wasn't hardcoded in firmware itself to prevent such a thing. Why? Who even knows, but most certainly not to make user's life easier.
