Anonymous, 16 Jan 2021Friendly reminder that there are already NSA backdoors in a... moreFunny since China is now more capitalistic than the US who can't keep up because they though their manufacturer would just sell to them and not try to expand their business themselves. Chinese companies finally figured out they can sell directly to the consumer without the US as intermediary.

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2021Why would you hope that these bans will be overturned until... moreI'm sure you know a lot about China person who never visited, lived or had any contact with actual Chinese people. Please tell us more. No way there is a ton of lies about China just like there were about "weapons of mass destruction". (US response: Oops, turns out we are full of shit, our bad.) If you believe everything you hear or read by western media on China then you are extremely gullible.

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2021The Trump loyalists in this comment sections are pathetic..... moreChina is poised to bat US GDP in 2028, US seems to suffer from virus till mid 2022 most likely.

In 15 years they will be too big to punish, they will start banning Intel and AMD from chinse sales since SMIC will have both foundries and lithography machines and it's game over then.

AnonD-804996, 16 Jan 2021Oh boy if we start banning American companies with ties to ... moreThat's is why China is rapidly switching to RISC-V bases processors, instaes of relying on crappy Bintel chips.

Soon they will have SMIC based on their own SMIC lithography machine, that is ready to go with 7nm makes in 2023 and 5nm in 2025.

It's a bit late but cathching up rapidly.

Their OS is based in Linux fork called Deepin

China is a $500 domestic electronics market.

Xi has called everything in china to be completely self sustained by 2035.

If they achieve full self sufficiency by 2035, they will ban Intel and AMD Chips in post 2035.

America is so scared of the chinese economy. Americans were sleeoing till trump woke them up.

Oh boy if we start banning American companies with ties to US military, they'd only be allowed to sell things within US lol...Huawei's ban was already unjustified if you ask me and this one is just silly. Xiaomi makes everything from phones to vacuum cleaners and mechanical watches. Them expecting not to be connected with Chinese military at any point is just silly. Of course they'll be and that's fine. A lot of companies work with military. It's just business and they may not even have to endorse Chinese political and military policies. Money is money, it just happens to come from military.

bla.bla.meh, 16 Jan 2021lets hope this puts an end to that china IP thievery, they ... moreDo you have any specific example of Xiaomi stealing IP from other companies?

The Trump loyalists in this comment sections are pathetic...they have no grasp of globalism that runs the world and think the U.S. can "win" (the only black-and-white concept their pea sized minds understand) by punishing China...

Maybe the Chinese military uses Xiaomi's vacuum cleaners to clean their bases. I mean, that should still count as a "tie", right? /s

Kushalne, 16 Jan 2021Whats the reason for banning? To safeguard Apple & Samsung, i already anticipate Xiaomi after Huawei banning, Jamu Kumar Jain better don't travel to US or Canada, or else he'll arrested for spying for CCP.

I never use Chinese phones. So it doesn't matter.

Usa is getting worse than imperialist uk and france in the past. We sbould boycott all american products so they can learn their lesson.

Chances are if you have an account, your data is already gone. No matter what phone brand you are using.
Of course now, people are free to judge by themselves which companies are worst. Imo, they are all the same.
The only sensible way you can get over this is to not care anymore. Or at least do not bother with whom is stealing more.

US just flexing what it can do. This is control, more than aything else. This time prospective US-based investors will not be allowed to invest to Xiaomi due to blacklisting.

You can’t bulldoze rest of the world with the one sided IP laws! If not for other countries ready to comply with standards, each would have evolved their own tech individually and west wouldn’t find it easier to tap everyone else through their honchos Apple & Google like they do now
