Kek, 16 Jan 2021nah, let people continue with the fearmongering. At least, ... moreI don't agree with that. You can hate Facebook as much as you want but creating and spreading misinformation and exaggerating a bad situation can potentially be devastating. Let's say it isn't Facebook but some other company or individual. For companies, customers stop buying their products to the point they almost become bankrupt or their reputation tarnishes. For individuals, they could be sent to jail for doing nothing wrong or be ridiculed by their peers. Even if the suspect is caught, the damage has already been done. This is why research is important so that you're not jumping to conclusions or become a sheep in a flock.

If it was only for Whatsapp Business accounts, then definitely they would have a mechanism for this update to be sent only to those accounts and not all personal whatsapp users. This is just an attempt to save face, right now, since they probably have lost a lot of users over the past two weeks who have moved over to Signal/Telegram

DrakeX, 16 Jan 2021People need to stop with the fearmongering / slandering of ... morenah, let people continue with the fearmongering. At least, this time is justified. Facebook has enough data and control already. They dont need anymore. They have shown in the past they are not reliable at all.

Give me a big bucket of salt and Doubt (X) right here, please.
Yeah, we all know this is just Facebook trying to save face (remember that one time when they said they never sold user's data, and then, Cambridge analytic scandal happened? Yeah, fun times).
So, continue with the hysteria. Facebook doesn't gives us a penny for using their stuff and there are plenty of other ships in the sea with better options out there.

People need to stop with the fearmongering / slandering of WhatsApp's privacy policies such as Facebook being able to see what links you post to create personalised ads and WhatsApp accounts being deleted if you don't accept it. It lead to a point where WhatsApp had to explain the situation. If people really cared about their privacy, they would've switch years ago as WhatsApp has been sharing metadata since August 2016, that is if you opt-in. It seems the checkbox is now gone for me so you're already opt-in when using WhatsApp. However, it's good to see people are finally trying out Signal and Telegram which are better alternatives. Personally, I haven't made the switch yet as not all my contacts have.

Deleted my Whatsapp account already. Not looking back. For Facebook I use the browser not app. Maybe I will start using Whatsapp Web too. No data collection apps in my phone monitoring everything including battery percentage 😂

Two years back, I had switched from all Facebook owned apps to better alternatives like Telegram and Twitter. All this time, I was trying to convince my relatives and friends to do the same. Many of them actually wanted to switch but were looking for better excuse to quit those apps. This new Privacy Policy gave them solid and perfect reason to switch to other apps. In last week, many of them had joined me on other apps.

Kinda misleading title. Most would say it's "moves backward" not "forward", including WhatsApp, as they say "backward" in their tweet.

Sorry mr. Zucc. Your greediness will kill you, already moving family, friends, and business to Telegram and signal. Also deleting Facebook but hoping they sell Instagram, because the last updates were total trash. Bye bye Zucc

What is this misinformation that you guys speak of? Whatsapp may say that they are not doing these things, but it's in their fine print! They think people are born yesterday and insulted their intelligence. They deserve the backlash.

so, yesterday I sent a photo of my dog on my WhatsApp group messaging. I mentioned my dogs name because of course everyone on my group chat knows my dogs name. Now without evening mentioning the word dog, about 15 minutes later when I went on instagram, boom... amazon ads for dog food and dog toys.
also around the same time I sent the photo of my dog to my group chat, I was on another group chat talking about chipping in some money to help purchase a new washing machine for a friend in need... the same time I seen an instagram ad for dog items I scroll down a little more and boom... best buy ad for washing machines.
social media and facebook in general has way too much power and control over our data privacy. I know facebook has an AI that scans photos on facebook, I'm sure it has been integrated onto instagram and whats app now.
Just knowing that the photo of my dog I sent, without mentioning the word "dog" then seeing ads for dog items on instagram tells me they're using photo scan software to help generate information to post ads pertaining to their information gathered.
