Android's upcoming Hibernation feature will reduce the size of apps you are not using

18 January 2021
It's not fully implemented yet, but it could be featured in the upcoming Android 12 Developer Preview release.

Useless feature. Older phones that need this with low memory (16 GB) will not get Android 11 and new phones with 256 GB memory and up do not need this.

Why not the ability to completely turn off an app from running on background just like what Microsoft did with Windows 10, both PC and Mobile? I'm yet to see such equivalent on Android.

I never use Chrome browser in my Android phone and prefer DuckDuckGo browser. Even if, I disable Chrome browser from App settings, it just uninstalls the app updates (not complete app) but shows as an update in Play Store every time till I update it again. Just allow us to uninstalled all the G-Apps completely and permanently which we never use and unnecessarily occupy the storage space.

I would like a native battery management app where you can choose the charging speed and charging percentage.
If you charge the phone over night you can reduce the charging speed to 5v - 1Amp to protect battery live.
Same as percentage, to only charge to 80% or whatever limit you set.

infinix & techno have freezer app which 'freezes' those apps which u are not using always. Is it similar?. Or similar to samsung one ui feature which 'puts unused apps to sleep'?

Windows 10 arm uses Snapdragon also, but that system is not as laggy as Android.

Upgrade or not upgrade android OS, still lags. Use for a year, your phone LAGS. Thats why android have no price retain, because its JUNK after a year or so.

In my understanding, hibernating an app means the app will be forced stop and/or blocked from running in background. You can't recieve notifications from a hibernated app.

I think that feature is similar as "Doze mode" from Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

I hope this means that this feature would be able to "hibernate" uninstallable Google apps that I never use in my phone like Google One, Lens, Assistant, etc.

I think I suggested something like this to Android in the past. They might try to compress the app, and for all non intensive real time apps, that maybe a good choice. They may strip it down so, it can be reinstalled, or strip it to the APK plus data, or just the data, requiring online reinstall, for apps that don't get used. But, if you have a memory card, the data can be left in phone, and maybe the APK, with the regular installation copied our to the card. Unfortunately , people tend to stuff things up. Since the card industry has reverted to use dodgy technology, and droid has removed installing on cards, as the days corrupts to quickly, and not using it for a year or so may make it go blank. It's a con. There is technology to do it right, like 3D xpoint, but the industry is refusing to do it.

I use Greenify & hibernator for saving Ram & Battery both.

At this point, they are better off rewriting all of Android instead. These "features" only generate more fragmentation and issues at the end.
