Some Galaxy S21 units only support NFC terminals for Samsung Pay, MST is getting phased out

20 January 2021
This is a regional variation - e.g. S21 phones in the US lack MST, ones in the UK do have it.

MST was that great hardware feature that took YEARS to get out the door, and ultimately failed, seen as a much more efficient way to use phone payments compared to apple pay at the time, allowing you to use your phone at any terminal, I remember my S6 had it built in, but the feature didnt go live for at least 2 years, and then supporting banks were limited to perhaps 3 in the UK, contactless rapidly grew in that time alone

It's time to replace your old devices, in Europe we have had NFC as the gold standard for a long time

Wow!! MST is better, and shouldn't be removed. I bet this was GOOGLE! I hate this behind the scene crap. No reason to remove MST! DEFINITELY won't buy the s21 or any other Samsung devices because I use Samsung Pay daily and not everyone has NFC!!

So now I shall atuck to wxynos version as I am in europe and most terminals are the old mst

Ofcourse, if competition does not show better than s21ultra phone next 2 months which is highly probable as samsung lost their leadership. Ofcourse s21ultra is massively better than the s20ultra aetup, so competition might be closer this 2021. 2020 was not. S21ultra was well behind some other top dogs which samsung does not want but did let it happen. And 2019, and 2018, 2017. 2016 was last strong year.

Oh, and I also forgot to mention the headphone jack. Galaxy S10 was the last Samsung flagship phone to have it.

Whatever Apple does, Samsung follows. Look at One UI 3.0. Many similarities to iOS (which isn't a bad thing, shows how much had improved since the Touchwiz days).

Probably a good idea to phase out obsolete and/or unpopular standards, to minimize confusion. Refer to VHS vs Betamax, Blu Ray vs HD DVD.

Also, like it or not, Apple is the trendsetter, for better or for worse. Because Samsung sees itself as the de facto Android rival of Apple, it is the most eager to copy Apple among all the Android phone makers.

            Apple Pay doesn't have MST.

Refer also to the notch (a hole punch cut-out is also a 'notch' cousin), omitting the battery charger in the box, phones with a non-removable battery encased inside the casing.

That's the only feature samsung offers that has actually kept me with them. I guess I'll just move on in a couple years to one of the Android phones without Samsung boatware, adware, and spyware in every nook and cranny.

In Malaysia it actually was phased out beginning with the s20fe variants. When contacted they said because Malaysia has already widely adopted NFC payments with pin pay becoming mandatory, it was wise to switch to NFC in Malaysia.

I use MST very frequently on my Snapdragon based Note 8.
Samsung is making phones more and more uninteresting by removing features I like.

hmmm....that is one of the reasons I use Samsung phone/Samsung Pay over a competitor. We will have to see what the landscape looks like when I go to upgrade.

Such an Apple move. Exclusive features even though there is a long established standard. Good going Samsung. Another feature gone.

Have physical presence is valuable, but not all the updates comes to all series and are time limited. Maybe someone between Samsung shareholders should vote to let his CEO to go to the the prison stop bribery and start to return to the right way where the money is invested to have happier customers instead of fool them.

Mouth to mouth being millions of customers should work like in the past. Help your friends to not be scammed.

Peter-B, 20 Jan 2021I was thinking it might be related to mmWave vs. no mmWave.... moreMaybe. If it helps, I've checked again and the information was updated. The Canadian models are all non-mmWave (as corroborated by their weight and it makes sense, given that the first mmWave auctions were delayed, next is 3.5GHz, so sub-6GHz) and are now claiming NOT to have MST. When the listing was first published, they mentioned MST for our listing but it was since then removed. If anything, it might suggest that there isn't MST at all.

(Evidence that MST was previously mentioned: https://r1.community.samsung.com/t5/samsung-pay/mst-removed/td-p/8605809 )

Definitely (NOSALE) Far to many missing features that better not be missing when Note21ultra time comes in August/September.

It's sad to see Samsung treat customers so badly removing features but still wanting that cash.

No MST in Samsung Pay on all S21 models, No sdcard support on all S21 models, No charger, No headphones, poor 1080p displays on S21 and S21Plus models.

Definitely not happening for me my Note20Ultra 5G and Note10Plus are far better products I hope nobody buys any S21 model.
