Dont want to be rude but hope 196 countries of the world will follow this suit and ban this ridiculous company forewer.

Anonymous, 27 Jan 2021Easy for a company to provide 5 years of updates when they ... moreYeah true, if you count how many Samsung phones have been updated to Android 11, you will see that number wise, Samsung updates more phones than Apple. And even more to come. Also, Android is simpler and easy to use, than the limited and strict IOS.
On the other hand, iphones are able to give software update for all eligible iphones at the same time. Not having to wait 3-6 month for your phone to be updated, just because it's an older model.
Also, from my own experience, they tend to quicker release software updates, if they find software bugs. Just the other day they released IOS 14.4 just because they found some privacy problems that could be exploited by hackers. So, they release a new software update just to correct this issue. On my Android phones I need to wait couple of months until they release the update to correct an issue.
There are advantages and disadvantages in both. Sadly, there is no perfect phone, otherwise everybody will buy it.

I was given a 4 year old iMac with a fancy magic mouse / keyboard setup and an iPhone 7 (this was 2 years ago). I knew I wouldn't like the iPhone so I put it aside to sell / trade. Tried the iMac after reinstalling the Os and didn't like it either. Decided to call up an authorized Apple distributor to see if I can sell it for $100 or whatever (because they hold value), salesman told me that they would give me "Up to" $25 towards a new system, depending on the system I bought.
I asked why so little and mentioned that Apple was supposed to hold it's value for resale. "That's not true, they wear and degrade just like any other computer" was his reply.
Ended up selling the iMac locally for $80 and gave the iPhone away as no one wanted to pay for it.

deon, 27 Jan 2021never mind, i still got OnePlus without any problemI can get any phone. It's not about obtainability. It's about wanting one. Just a thought of having to return to fragmented disaster of Android with its dumb forced phone purchases to get latest OS makes me not want to do that. And Google seems to intentionally sprinkle certain cool features just wide apart through Android versions that you always get left out with crappy 2 years of updates. And even if phones technically still work despite not getting any updates anymore, I just don't like that at all. Do you know how many Android phones with security holes that never got patched are out there? And people run banking and everything on them. I have security background and I'm not liking that idea at all. Android can be super secure and all that and top all security charts. When it's actively eligible for updates. Beyond that it's the worst there is quite frankly. And that "beyond" happens after 2 years on most devices. Not exactly best characteristic.

Meh, just some countries lawyers wanting a piece of the pie. Apple got sued because they have money. Nobody will want to sure penniless Android OEMs that obsoleted their phones in a year or two from zero updates because they don’t have as much money as Apple.
