Bring back symbian and nokia. People complain about apple throttling, but they are ok with samsung and sony not providing software updates after 2 years. In my mind, apple is a lesser of the two evils and honestly you can still live off a iphone 6 or 6s with no issues. Imaging living with a Samsung S6 or S7 :O

AnonD-804996, 26 Jan 2021People keep saying "buuuuht you keep supporting such d... moreYes, there are way too much people trying to justify the removal of the 3.5mm Jack by saying that THEY, themselves, prefer wireless, or that the Jack is an old tech, etc.
This is not the root of the problem, but it clearly not helped to make such kind of bad design stop.
What the market need is super simple :
Diversity.
1) If a feature isn't invasive (meaning the user can just perfectly ignore it) like the 3.5mm Jack, the IR Port or the independent SD Slot, NFC, Wireless charging, then it should be a base option that most phones have except if there is a justification (phone being too thin, too cheap, being portless etc), which is more an exception than anything else.
2) If a feature is invasive, like curved edge display, punch hole, huge (thick) camera hump, that the user can't just ignore, not use or disable, then it should be in the pool of different designs.
3) Rather than making 10 bazillions identical phones, most should have a common body and system hardware which will be build into multiple variants, so you'll have one with curved edge display, another with 2.5D, another with flat display, depending on how modular the body is, a version could even have a wrap around or at least a 4 curved edge display, while into the mix, some will have a punch hole, other a bezel, other a teardrop notch, other a pill/dual punch hole, other a wide notch, other a pop up/flip up camera, other without front camera, etc.
At the end, each will be basically the same main model, meaning the updates will be common to all with only their respective differences to consider, rather than making completely independent updates.
4) Each common body could have multiple sizes while keeping the same hardware, the same as the iPhone 12 Mini is still the same as the regular iPhone 12 except for the size.
On top of that, multiple hardware configurations could be possible, so one with a Snapdragon based, another with a Mediatek, another with an Exynos, etc.
5) Some features could be more unique, regardless of the price range, so you could have a low end or middle end phone with a flagship level of camera setup, or alternatively like the Pocophone F1, a flagship system with a really simple camera setup, or even a Flagship special edition with an even better camera setup that cost a lot but is only for those who need it.
6) Rather than making less different phones with X or Y feature, simply produce less of them to answer to supply and demand, that way even niche products doesn't require big deviation from the main production line, allowing to make a lot of sub variants that all come out of the same production line that only have branching to allow that, and allow to basically make what is almost a single update for all of them.
I mean that's literally what Object-Oriented Programming is for, the ability to easily handle the same core and put many sub variants on it.
That's how Android should have been and should have stayed, making diversity to allow everyone to have a decent chance at finding his ideal device.
Some might want a phone with a bezel, curved edge display and a really simple camera setup with only an acceptable main camera with a mid-range SoC while the guy next to him might want a phone with underdisplay camera, flat display, high-end SoC and a great camera setup with Wide, Ultra-Wide and Telephoto.
Apple is different, the philosophy of Apple was always to make thing simple and to don't let the users a choice to force them into a really simple model to avoid the complexity a customizable OS would cause, so not having diversity from the different phones they have is actually understandable, but not for Android.

Between iPhone without headphone jack or having to deal with shitty Android ecosystem with stupid updating schemes, what choice do you really have? Do you think iPhone users would just jump to Android the moment Apple dropped headphone jack? And when Android started adopting it too, then what? You've switched OS and ended up with same situation in the end coz everyone copies Apple.
Seeing this trend, I fear Apple will really drop cable in favor of wireless entirely. I do use Qi charger when I'm not in a hurry. But when I need faster charge, I use cable. If phone will be forced to use wireless charging only. But then I'm again asking, am I willing to accept that tradeoff to keep on using for me personally superior OS? I honestly don't know. I really don't like Android and its crappy updating shenanigans, but losing ability to charge almost anywhere is also pretty bad. I guess I'll have to decide when I get there. I plan on sticking with iPhone XR for 2-3more years. What I fear the most is that most Android vendors will copy this Apple's design and we'll end up with no option, really...

I am also sure it is the same kind of people who can't handle the idea that any phone exist without being exactly what they like, you want anything else from the :
*Punch hole/teardrop notch.
*50% chances of curved display in High End.
*Ugly camera bump with the same arrangement on most phones.
*2Mp Macro and ToF sensors.
*No IR, No Jack, No Stereo speakers, no independent SD Card slot.
Etc etc...
You face a lot of guys who literally get totally mad at you for wanting ONE phone that isn't the same, as if they would be unable to find a device if a single phone outside their 95% identical ones would dare to innovate or to take its own path...
And this is sad, but this behavior is one of the reason things are like that, if it wasn't for those anti 3.5mm Jack, its removal would have been stopped, and if it wasn't for people being for some weird reasons against privacy, a way better user experience would be available.
The same is true for Batterygate and removal of inbox charger.
Without people approval, most of those things wouldn't even be a consideration, because when people REALLY want, governments and the biggest companies both can't do much.

[deleted post]7 year old iPad's Wifi stopped working from one hour to another. It was at the same place, inside the house, not exposed to any harm. Surprisingly I can connect to my phone as a hotspot but can't do Wifi.
I reset the tablet, removed it from the network manually and still doesn't work suddenly. They send out silent updates to break old tech. It's insanity if you think they don't. The iPad 3 was first crippled by iOS 9, it's last update (coincidence?) and now this.
If you want to trade it in, you were getting €30 in 2019 for a working or undamaged one. Now they made it useless without Wifi and offer you €0. Yes, literally €0. All the material in it is worth more than that.

This is the policy that Xiaomi has adopted too fark. I will Never buy a phone which I cannot unlock the bootloader to install a custom ROM. Or makes you wait for their approval to unlock bootloader. You give them money lots of money when you buy the phone but OEMs still want to co-own the phone with you s#it.
