Great camera specs, the lens line is getting there. But sorry for your wallet!

Not sure about which people you are talking, but it's crazy how much large cameras stagnate and it's unbelievable how much progress there has been regarding smartphone cameras.
Several smartphone cameras are far(!) superior when compared with jpgs from large cameras.
And yes, in several scenarios they even can beat them when you exposure correctly and edit the raw files. The raw file base Iso advantage of a large sensor is NOT(!) as large as the theoretical advantage you get when you just look at the amount of light/ sensor area. Large sensors are usually LESS effective than small sensors. A small sensor usually doesn't need to capture 100% as much light as a much larger sensor in order to outperform it regarding dynamic range. A reason is read noise.

And as I already mentioned, sensor size isn't that important. A Xiaomi Note 10 or Vivo X60 Pro Plus capture approximately as much light per time as a Canon Aps-c DSLR + f/3.5 wide angle lens. And that's even without combining multiple frames. A Vivo X60 Pro Plus or Xiaomi Note 10 only need to combine 3 frames in order to capture as much light as a full frame camera + kit lens with the same exposure time.

Large cameras even need a shorter exposure time than smartphones in order to prevent blur as it is more difficult to hold a large camera steady. A large camera has a large lens. Tilting a large lens by 1° will cause a larger shift of the view point than tilting a small lens as the view point of a large lens has a larger distance to the rotational axis. And of course the torque of a large lens is higher. Also, the mechanical shutter can cause blur.
So a Xiaomi Note 10 or Vivo X60 Pro probably don't even need to combine 3 frames in order to capture as much light as a full frame camera + wide angle kit lens in low light conditions as the full frame camera will need to choose a shorter exposure time, especially if the full frame camera doesn't offer image stabilization.
If you want the full frame camera to have the same depth of field, then in this case the phone would even capture more light. And that's even without combining frames.

Sony is killing it when it comes to mirrorless cameras.Hope this would have been the case with their mobile division.

There will probably be someone commenting here saying "Oh, my Galaxy S20 Ultra can already do that from a year ago! What a shame! Sony is totally behind the game. They should quit now and close their goddamn business already!" 🤦

Anonymous, 27 Jan 2021And yet, it’s always Android fan girls like you who say stu... moreIs he wrong though? Most iPhone vs Mirrorless camera comparisons that I see are only doing Auto vs Auto showdown, and then conclude that the iPhone is every bit as good as the digital camera in auto shooting, in which the true potential of proper cameras lie within their manual mode and RAW outputs instead.

This basically leads to iPhone users mostly claiming that their phones can take DSLR-like images already, when in fact that is only because the sensors of the iPhone is already being maximized while their reference mirrorless camera outputs are only the JPEGs with minimal to no processing at all.

Either way, people would still come here just to spread hate against Sony for delivering top quality products. No wonder we haven't progressed that far today, because people with such mindsets are hindering the evolution that we could be having now if only they embraced changes instead.

An ultimate Swiss army knife of an ILC with no compromise in specs and features. Sony is slaughtering the competition in the camera space, and I absolutely love it.

Anonymous, 27 Jan 2021DSLR can be any sensor size, it does not mean Full Frame. ... moreWrong. A full frame sensor is 12.5 times as large as the sensor of the S21 Ultra. Furthermore sensor size isn't that important. The S21 Ultra captures approximately as much light per time as a Canon Aps-c DSLR + f/4 wide angle kit lens. A Vivo X60 Pro+ captures even slightly more light per time than a Canon Aps-c DSLR + f/3.5 wide angle kit lens.

No, 8 stops, 15 stops, etc are always related to raw files and they are related to base Iso. It says nearly nothing about the jpg dynamic range. Regarding the visible jpg dynamic range, most smartphone cameras are far superior to full frame cameras.

Exyvia, 27 Jan 2021You definitely would not get that. The only reason why ... moreThat's wrong. Stacking doesn't necessarily lead to ghosting. Google has proven that with the Nexus and Pixel phones. I have taken a lot of soccer photos with Google's HDR+ On mode and there was basically never ghosting in good light conditions. Though it's true that in recent years Apple, Huawei and Samsung phones occasionally suffered from ghosting.

The raw file base Iso dynamic range of many DSLRs is actually worse than the jpg dynamic range that Apple and Samsung can achieve. A large camera might have to expose for the highlights and choose 1/2000s with the same f-number. A lot of read noise will be visible in the shadows. A smartphone could choose 1/2000s and 1/50s. 1/50s leads to 40 times as much light for the shadows and it will result in better shadows than the shadows of the large camera.
Also, 15 stops are only related to base Iso and they are also only related to raw files, not jpgs. The visible jpg dynamic range of large cameras is terrible, especially if you don't adjust settings.

When it comes to low dynamic range low-light photography, smartphones outperform large cameras, too. Especially when it comes to low light photography with a high depth of field, no medium format camera will have a chance as a medium format camera won't capture more light per time than a smartphone, if the depth of field is the same. So by combining multiple frames, the phone will perform much better. But even when you compare a Canon Aps-c DSLR + kit lens at f/3.5 15mm + 1/2s exposure time with the Pixel 3a Night Sight mode in extremely low light conditions, the Pixel 3a will produce noticeably less color noise and achieve a similar level of detail.

And certain smartphones are able to process colors much, much better. Good jpg processing is extremely important.

AnonD-923722, 27 Jan 2021I am waiting for an DSLR sized sensor and high quality lens... moreDSLR can be any sensor size, it does not mean Full Frame.
There are DSLR with sensor of same size of iphone 12.

Full Frame sensor is at least 20x larger than the sensor used by S21 Ultra.
The sensor used by this Sony camera costs more than $2000.

Cameras do not need to use tricks that make photos artificial like instagram filters like phones.
While iphone has 8 of Dynamic Range, professional cameras can reach 15.

Exyvia, 27 Jan 2021You definitely would not get that. The only reason why ... moreThats why smartphone needs computational photography & image stacking. Hardware limitation. I'll take those computational things if its applied in smartphone (minimal artifacts, clever processing) over a smartphone that act like a mirrorless/dslr with lazy image processing (really really shows hardware limitation).

Take a look at this P40 - https://www.eoshd.com/news/fuji-gfx-100-loses-to-huawei-p40-pro-plus-smartphone-for-dynamic-range/ - It can achieve up to 15 steps of DR! A smartphone with tiny sensor (big as smartphone)! It performs better than most APSC & near to FF mirrorless level! (in terms of DR only, details of course big win for bigger sensor). The key is, keep the minimal artifacts.

Agree on no computational on actual camera. People use it to create own style, not edited for you.
