I had a iPhone 4 which uses the microSIM. I now have a Samsung Galaxy Grand. 5" screen and its dual SIM, both the regular mini SIM, yeah proper SIM cards. This makes for a great travellers phone who buys a new SIM each time entering a new country. If I was to buy a new phone today I'm get the dual SIM 5.8" Galaxy Mega.

Isn't life more simple when we have standards, for a long time we have had a standard nicely sized sim card. Now that phones have generally been getter bigger instead of smaller, someone decides the sim card should be smaller! Why! OK great it saves a little space in a phone but adds a lot of inconvenience to customers, especially for anyone who travels a lot and often swaps sim cards. The number of sim cards I now see messily taped up in order to convert a micro-SIM back to the more standard size! Often from those who upgraded from a iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S3 or Note. Another Apple ploy, once you cut your sim down in size its difficult to change back to other phones! Now they have saved slightly more space by making a nano sim. Now the situations is even worse and a nano sim is even more tricky to handle. The happy world of once one size sim cards is now a less compatible inconvenient 3 different sizes! Thanks Apple (NOT), you really make my life simpler by buying your products.

Same goes for the now standard charger / data port of microUSB, now there is a damn lightning cable that's not even faster than its predecessor.

If they want to make more money they should increase the price for phone rather causing inconvenience.
The most important of all is charger.
iPhone alone is not shifting to micro USB..... That's some cheap money making style that doesn't go with Apple.

wow so much hate over a little sim card. This makes sense. This is what the micro-sim should always have been. We only need the gold piece, so as much of the plastic should go as possible. There can be little bad about this. Saves space to allow for bigger batterys, thinner and smaller phones. There is no cost to consumers, Networks will give you free SIM cards and if you need a new one, the network will sort it. Dont see the problem

Anderaz, 05 Sep 2012I don't understand it too... If nobody (to be clear: NOBO... moreNot really.
The nano SIM was designed in order to save space in future device. And just because the winner for design of nano SIM is Apple doesn't mean nobody wants it. (AFAIK, Nokia and RIM also come out with their nano SIM design but didn't win)
I agreed that nano SIM seems ridiculous, even the micro SIM is not so widely used on today devices.
But still, it's for the future..

If nobody (to be clear: NOBODY), as we can read everywhere on the internet, wanted the nanosim why are they doing it???
              It's a nonsense.
99% of the comments on the web are negative, so why doing such a stupid and unuseful thing?

Now it's clear why Apple pushed its own version of nano SIM standard. They already produce it and didn't want to loose money because of some better design by other companies ;)

Isn't it ironic how today's phone's keep getting bigger and bigger yet these stupid sim cards keep getting smaller. I mean honestly why the added inconvenience man. I'm sure you got plenty of space in that 5 inched phablet sized thing that barely fits in your pocket; to host a regular sim card.

Unlike the SD --> MiniSD --> MicroSD shift, there is NO benefit of having a micro or nano SIM card.

Yeah I know, it fits in a smaller space but by how much? a few cubic mm aren't going to fit anything else into phones that are already large (and growing!)

Dude, changing the form factor won't change current rate being used unless the chip being replaced, that's just marketing pattern that will abusively drainage your pocket. Please don't compare to fat vs slim guys.
