is it so hard to use under display fingerprint reader or to put one at he back mimicking the apple logo? apple had 10 months to adapt iphone12 to pandemic. it shouldn't be harder than creating the COVID vaccine!

Apple face recognition is nothing but a gimmick from day one. no one is missing it .
we all use our hands to carry the phone , so a finger scan is fast and enough.
replacement or not air bag or belt , it is not needed from day one in a phone.

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2021Selling their excess stocks of watches during a pandemic.Exactly, I bet the sales were pretty low since people spend much more time in home office and possibilites for sport are in many places limited (bad weather, gym closed) and it's rather depressing to see how few steps you make. I got a 90 euro Amazfit, battery lasts more than 7 days and offers me everything I need, no need to spend 6 times more. Works perfectly with my iphone 12 pro max.

I've always been saying that face unlock is a total joke since Day 1, and this idea strengthens my stance even stronger. Seriously, just f*** face unlock and give fingerprint scanning all day, even on Android. This is yet another proof that new tech or ideas are not always better than the old.

This news is about a flaw, a drawback in the iPhone's biometric system. The solution of which, of course, is expensive and comes with a ton of conditions to work, if at all. They were too cheap to put an under-the-display fingerprint scanner.
They had months to prepare after the start of the pandemic, where it was clear that face ID wasn't working with a mask on the iPhone 11 series.
Now they come up with a ridiculous expensive solution where they are pushing unnecessary products like Apple watch onto the consumer just to get a particular feature working.
