    Android-Authority, 09 Feb 2021Just stop it with your BS. Android theming and widgets are... moreDifferent, yes... Elite, probably no. Android hit the pinnacle of customization at ver. 4-5. After Marshmallow, the fragmentation and in the name of security made a lot of app obsolete and was never really got replaced properly. I'm mean look at Dark Mode itself. While iOS did receive it late (very late if you want to count on 3rd party Android ROMs), but their dark mode at least is a proper Global one. Unlike Android, Google can't even get their own app's dark mode in uniform. Till today, Pre-Android 9 ROMs still don't have dark mode for Gmail. Even then, it a Google service side thing instead of local. That just messed up. While 3rd party has mange to get dark Gmail since Lollipop.

    And the theming engine was extreme buggy since day 1, till now. While 3rd party ROM do bring breathing space to extend their life, but none came close to most reputable official ROM releases.

        Android theming and widgets are just on a different elite level.

        Theming/customization on Android can be rated at 80 and above on a scale of 0 to 100.
        Stock Android = 80.
        Miui = 95.
        Color OS/One Ui/Zen Ui/Oxygen OS = 85-90.
        iOS = 10.

          That looks horrendous and hella cheap

            Anonymous, 09 Feb 2021all these features are already in IOS HAHAHAHA whats up and... moreNothing new, ios and android have been implementing things from each other since beginning.

              -Trix-, 09 Feb 20213rd apps can look and feel like they belong to OS, just loo... moreI agree with the widgets, they are pretty unpolished and have relatively stayed the same over the years though really don't see the difference with apps and if there is, it's such an insignificant difference most non enthusiasts won't notice it so heavily doubt that's one of the main reasons iphones are popular unless you mean popular with enthusiasts.

                its look like a theme to me,im not sure if it is going to be an android 12,bcauz they are going lite and simple everytime!

                  VulkanXL, 09 Feb 2021I mean I partially agree with you but don't get how ap... more3rd apps can look and feel like they belong to OS, just look iPhone. Apple have always had design rules to follow for developers to make sure the experience feels almost same when you use third party apps. This is propably one main reason why iPhone is so popular.

                  Also if you look iOS widgets, those are also having same design language. It feels like Apple could have designed many of those 3rd widgets, they just fit very well to Ui. Again same with Android, widgets doesn't even fit with the stock Android, but the problem gets lot bigger if you use 3rd themes.

                  And yes not everyone care this because Android themes exist and they will have their fans, but i just said the reason why so few uses them and what is wrong with the user experience in big picture.

Also don't really get your dislike of launchers and your point of most people you know not using themes is anecdotal, not everyone hates something you hate.

                          Google should make it mandatory to support 'project Treble' for all OEMs and also provide update support much like iOS if it wants to compete..

                            Themes are great in paper, but in reality themes are really halfbaked and they don’t cover the whole experience. They might make your main homescreen looks good, but out of that pretty much everything is broken and just doesn’t quite fit together. If you use themes it means your 3rd apps are from different world, because they won’t follow that design. There’s no clear design language to follow. Because everything just have it’s own style.

                            I don’t really know anyone who is using themes with their smartphones or with their desktop computers which have had themes always, why? Because just like you said they mostly sucks and doesn’t offer full experience, because it’s impossible thing to do.

                            Also these Android 12 photos just show that google still doesn’t have taste, are these real?

                              YUKI93, 09 Feb 2021Why I'm seeing iOS icons here?The icond in the images are clearly from an icon pack downloaded from the Play Store.

                                It honestly appears like Google just chose the worst looking UI elements from OneUI and ColorOS and stapled them together. It still doesn't look terrible, don't get me wrong, but there's no way in hell I would choose it over Samsung/Oppo's custom skins.

But you seem to have this dumb fixated idea I'm using iPhone since beginning of time and I'm not aware of whatever features Android offers. Yeah, I know what it offers. I've gone through all of that. And always returned to stock theme and stock launcher of whatever vendor I happened to have because all alternatives as well as all 3rd parties were inconsistent ugly rubbish. Just because you offer gallery of 50.000 garbage themes it doesn't make it a useful feature. Stock iOS looks better than any launcher or theme. Stock MIUI looks better than any custom launcher or theme. Stock OneUI looks better than any custom theme. And they all look and work consistently. As soon as you bolt a launcher on top it just stands out and doesn't connect with the rest of UI and it just looks horrible. It can be useful for few users, but realistically, I wouldn't brag with it, given in what kind of state themes always are on all phones by all vendors. It's only really useful if you craft a theme yourself. How many users do that? Maybe 1%? More like 0.1%...
