Exynos 2100 vs Snapdragon 888: Battery testing the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra versions

14 February 2021
After looking into the performance of the two chipsets, we decided to move on to some differential battery comparisons, as well.

If you don't trust this website. don't come here. I believe in these guys and their testing. Helped me jump from phones to better phones. I change phones every 6 months and I have used over 40 phones in my life (+1000 others I tried in store and friend's) and all of them matches up to the expectation set by gsmarena.

P.S.- Before you even get into trust issues with me, a fellow reader.. No I don't work for gsmarena.. they didn't pay me.. heck they don't even do any giveaways like youtube channels to gain viewers, I just love them and the work they do.

If I bought the phone my settings would comprise of AOD on, dark mode, GPS always on, and Bluetooth on whenever I have to use the Galaxy Buds Plus. 5G would be off, since my country doesn't have 5G yet.

Wonder if I'd be able to get 7-9 hours with these settings.

This is the 2nd comparison I've seen and it seems they have fixed the battery life issue, but the sp888 is still more stable and more powerful on heavy tasks. So yes while it's a step towards the wright direction, the sp version is still superior.

I had expected an SOT of 7-8 hours with this usage on WQHD+ and adaptive refresh rate.

Exynos is fine on fairly light use but once you put higher workload on it tends to throttle faster and the clocks would start to go all over the place (less stable). Snapdragon 888 is still better and uses less battery during high workload tests. I'd say that not all people would do stress test on a daily basis but as we all know, Samsung's selling these things with different SoC at the same pricepoint so it's actually justifiable that people would expect that they're at least on par but in reality they aren't.

The actual technology is 99% ARM and since this year both Qualcomm and Samsung chose the same type of cores in the same arrangement and both use 5nm manufacturing technology, the outcome is quite clear.

wow, what a samsung supported publication. your test is like testing how large the battery and efficient the display is, therefore no difference! 🤦‍♀️

TechTablets was also dissapointed with the Exynos performance again and the 4K video recording is meh.

Battery life is already on par with the Exynos 2100 chipset which is good, it’s just the performance that is well behind the SD888. Unfortunately I have heard some rumors that certain reviewers are receiving golden binned chipset phones (overclocked) and fails to measure the thermals correctly.

Push either SoC to the limits and the TDP exceeds 10W. The A14 only has about half the TDP yet performs as well. Only during idle the TDP is a little high compared to competing chips/phones.

I did not expect this. Apparently the S21 range is going to be an actually viable option in Europe after all, something I assumed it wouldn't.
