Exynos 2100 vs Snapdragon 888: Battery testing the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra versions

14 February 2021
After looking into the performance of the two chipsets, we decided to move on to some differential battery comparisons, as well.

The actual technology is 99% ARM and since this year both Qualcomm and Samsung chose the same type of cores in the same arrangement and both use 5nm manufacturing technology, the outcome is quite clear.

wow, what a samsung supported publication. your test is like testing how large the battery and efficient the display is, therefore no difference! 🤦‍♀️

Read this before talking. Exynos is still most inefficient chip out there.

Well that’s promising. Won’t get my hopes up until we see a thermal test...

Calls + video playback + web browsing + standby

However, that's with 5g off, s pen off, Bluetooth off, dark mode on. Battery life isn't terrible, but it isn't spectacular, too.

Shadow Snypa786, 14 Feb 2021Bravo Samsung you proved all the haters wrong. Now the Exy... moreThe Exynos 2100 is still behind the SD888, what are you talking about? You should read Anandtech’s tests and how the SoC is designed. I also have watched Gary Explains YT of the 2 version of S21 Ultra comparison and the Exynos is behind the SD.

TechTablets was also dissapointed with the Exynos performance again and the 4K video recording is meh.

Battery life is already on par with the Exynos 2100 chipset which is good, it’s just the performance that is well behind the SD888. Unfortunately I have heard some rumors that certain reviewers are receiving golden binned chipset phones (overclocked) and fails to measure the thermals correctly.

Push either SoC to the limits and the TDP exceeds 10W. The A14 only has about half the TDP yet performs as well. Only during idle the TDP is a little high compared to competing chips/phones.

People don't give a shit to people who don't provide any proof but exaggerate everything on their own.

sohail shafayat, 14 Feb 2021who cares? You ofc. You cared enough to reply to me. You cared enough to trashtalk exynos.

I did not expect this. Apparently the S21 range is going to be an actually viable option in Europe after all, something I assumed it wouldn't.

In India, 90% of the buyers are complaining of a SOT of 4-5 hours. That really sucks for a flagship costing $1600.

This is great to see, while Exynos is still lacking little compared to SD, (primarily throttling) this is a big, big jump, one or two more years and it's going to be on par if not better if it keeps improving at this rate.

exynos still makes hands down the best hand warmer for winter.

Anonymous, 14 Feb 2021Nice spin on the situation kudos to samsung even if you and... moreWhat spin? All I did was just stated what really happened in reality. What Samsung did was a major change, but not a drastic improvement, otherwise their new Exynos flagship SoCs should already be competing with Apple's greatest by now.
