Go for Samsung and enjoy. You will replace it after two or three years. So having five years of software support is really pointless.

Why buy a tablet if you you have a big screen phone. In my opinion the sweetspot is 6.5 and almost no bezels. Perfect for media consumption, great battery, yet still portable. I now have an iphone 12 pro max, which I think it is on the big side, 6.5" would have been ideal, but I am still very happy.

Nothing to do with the battery, smaller phones just are niche. There's group of people who want to have compact phone, but it's getting smaller and smaller. I'm one of those who likes compact phones, but i'm now using 11 Pro. I'm Ok with having bigger screen while losing one hand usability. I think 11/12 Pro is really sweet spot for compact yet bigger screen.

What went wrong with the iPhone 12 Mini is the battery.
Had they made this a bit thicker with say 30-40% more battery capacity, it would have been a hit.
Also being cheaper by $75 - $100 would have helped !
Note - I guess Apple has already asked its distributors in India to give heavy discounts to push out the 12 Mini, so in a way it is being sold at a discount over the launch price.

Just look at Samsung's current lineup. The lower end ones M01/A01/A41 have been upscaled to 6.5+ inch in their successors. Only S20/S21 are below 155cm. Most OEMs don't have any device comparable in size to S21 let alone a compact device.
There are caveats to a compact phone but 6.0-6.2 inches is not compact. I don't understand why OEM's don't launch anything in this size anymore. Especially OEMs like Xiaomi and Realme who are launching new phones every two weeks.

The 11 is the best deal at $600. I can get it for free with a trade-in. Not really free. Spend $100 on an iPhone 8 and trade it in to achieve it.
My billing also goes up $10 more. So it's really $340 ($240 + $100 on the used 8). My mind only changed because if theming is easy to do, I'll get it in black and keep everything in dark mode.
The 12 mini isn't a garbage phone. It should've just been priced at $399 from the beginning like the og SE did. And Apple should've never released the iPhone 8SE. But owning a 12 mini will show its restrictions once I want to consumer more media.

Man, the iPhone 12 mini is getting trashed here. LOL. It has been a flop. The most vocal have been people online wanting a small phone again. In real world, they're a small minority. Real people in the real world don't have time to comment in forums.
Personally, I might still get it. Price might drop dramatically for it. I didn't know iOS14 became lenient in theming. Would prefer OLED which the XR and 11 don't have. But what I really want is the 11 Pro. I prefer the rounded sides. I owned the 4 and SE. While I love the design, they're not comfy with flat sides like that.

And since compact phones are preferred by people who doesn´t use them very much, they're unlikely to pay more for them. In short, compact phones should do better when they're not flagships, but low to mid range.

AnonD-973296, 09 Feb 2021lol 12 mini was a flop lol you do realise that that 5% of total iPhone sales equates to *billions* in profit, right? Just not a huge % of the +$100B in sales Apple had in 2020. They sold roughly 200m iPhones in 2020 - sooo that's 10m units shipped of the 12 mini.

I always found the pro big screen argument for phone silly. Those screens are tiny still, but by now the phone is less portable as well. It is like getting the worst of both worlds, lol.
