I'm using an old SGS1.
Just went from GB to ICS a week ago, because previous edition ROMs are stopped being developed and all devs try to make the newest ROMs work (JB).
There were some kinks here and there, but for most part my phone is OK.
Shame Scamsung stopped support for my phone.
But oh well that's the way it is.
I do agree that most don't know the difference between GB and JB and simply don't care if their phone just simply works.

We have 4 Android devices, SGH-i717R Note, GT-N7000 Note, TF-101 Transformer tablet & I9000M SGS all happily running 4.1.1 JB, baby! Most impressive is the SGS, going from Eclair in August 2010 to Jelly Bean 2 weeks ago!

Does anyone know if this includes roms or not? If would be nice if Google separated official releases from unofficial roms so we could see how many people actually flash (or don't) their phones.

Those on Froyo commenting here - upgrade to 2.3.5 or 2.3.6, it's well worth it. If your carrier is not providing you with an upgrade then find an international release for your device (or custom ROM) and upgrade through Odin.
ICS is good, but it was clear from the outset it has problems:
- Google took far longer than expected to release it
- then took longer than expected to roll it out to nexus. Within in a few weeks they released 4.0.2 and rolled it out immediately.
- Manufacturers took months longer again before releasing ICS on their devices, and most waited for 4.0.3. Over 1 year later many have promised but still haven't released ICS for their devices.
Once GB got to 2.3.3 it was rolling out quickly by all manufactureres. This alone speaks volumes.
ICS has fundamental issues - Google basically said as much during the JB launch.
ICS is to Android what Vista was to Microsoft. Sure, many have good experiences with it, but many have not.
If your on the latest version of GB, just wait for JB. It's a significant re-write of many parts of Android. Manufacturers are already falling over themselves to get updates out. App devs were getting their apps JB ready weeks before it was released. And look, no 4.1.2 in site yet!
Updating to JB will be a safe bet. Sadly even JB will still have some core UI smoothness issues that hopefully will get proper rewrites in KLP.

Android Froyo does what I need to, what annoys me is i can see apps not supporting it soon. I have an Orange Barcelona, and seeing as I can't type on touchscreen, I cant see many replacement options
